    Keep your grip true.

The Giro Zero II Gloves features minimal padding on the palm, giving you precise feel and dexterity with the perfect amount of grip. Giro uses its Super Fit construction to ensure the Pittards leather palm keeps its shape and that your grip stays true. The four-way stretch mesh uppers offer excellent ventilation and prevent moisture from collecting, and the slip-on cuff provides a smooth and secure finish.

    Gloves are good

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 161lbs

The gloves fit snug. I bought a size M and they are just right for my hands, which are average. They did tear into the seam on the left middle finger, so i stitched it back up. Since then, no other troubles. I did not experience any dye related color to my skin, even after rides that went for a few hours. Other than that, the gloves are comfortable and very well vented. Something to look forward to on race day.

    minimalist glove

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

yes they have minimal padding and really overall minimal material. if you like bare hand feel but want some protection if you slide out in a fall these are the ticket. this is my wife's second pair and she loves them. she rides quite a bike and goes through a pair in less than a season.

    Needs a rework?

    • Fit: Runs small

I love Giro gloves and helmets. Have used them for 15+ years.

And the -design- here is great. These are good looking, well ventilated, and have no pads (better bar feel and bar grip).

But if gloves don't wear well and tear easily, who cares? And, frankly, after wearing a pair for a season I don't like the leather used; it stretches and wears poorly. Something like Clarino or AX synthetic leather would be more durable and breathe better. In fact, Giro uses an excellent durable/synthetic textile (Cool Skin) in their fantastic Road LTZ II glove.

So, I have to point towards Giro's own excellent LTZ II glove or PI's new P.R.O. Aero glove if you want a recommendation for great, short-finger gloves without pads.

Update: Giro's (improved) new version of these gloves are due out soon.

Held up perfectly for heavy gym use

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 136lbs

2 pairs I use primarily for gym and heavy weightlifting. Have held up perfectly. Zero tears. Zero problems. Getting 2 more pairs. For biking use prefer gloves with at least a life padding. Weird to read other reviews and the problems since mine have been so good

The seam at the wrist tore

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The seam at the wrist tore early on which it's great for $35 gloves. Time to find something better. I would not recommend them.

    Well, I Like Them

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Like everyone else, my hands were initially black from seeping dye. I don't really care.

Like everyone else, some stitching has started to fray. I don't really care.

Great fit, breathable, supple palms. I tear through a set of these every six months or so. Guess what - I don't care. Durable goods!

    hands are black

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

absolutely the worst product i have ever purchased. everything said in the other reviews applies. backcountry should be giving us all credit.

    Black and ripped

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When new, the fit was great and the leather was soft then it went down hill. For the first 4-5 rides my hands were black from the dye even after several washings (by hand). After about 200 miles the stitching along one of fingers was coming undone and then another finger started fraying. After about 600 miles the palm had a big hole. The gloves were then sent to the trash heap.

Worst pair of gloves ever owned

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These gloves completely disintegrated after less than two months of use. Once they got wet with moderate sweat, the palms came apart and you could literally see pieces of the gloves all over my bartape. Plus the seam on the thumb of one of the gloves gave way.

I've had gloves that held up better after a crash. These gloves blew apart by simply wearing them.

To make matters worse, the Competitive Cyclist warranty process has been a complete pain. After a week, a half dozen emails, and a 45 minute hold time on their warranty line, nothing has been taken care of.

Do yourself a favor and do not buy these gloves.

Worst pair of gloves ever owned

After 4 months of normal use the wrist cuff started tearing away from the body of the glove. Called competitive cyclist and they told me to email their warranty department about the issue. It has been two weeks and no response. Looks like I made a bad purchase.

Wish I had seen the other bad reviews...

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Consistent with what others have pointed out, these gloves have stained my bar tape black. And now, after very little use, they have a fabric tear. Bad purchase.

      BEWARE! Will stain your clothes

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This glove is very nice: fits well, looks great, feels good on the bars.

HOWEVER, when the pittards leather gets moist (i.e., when you sweat!), the black dye runs, stains your hands, but WORSE -- it stains your clothes! During a ride this afternoon, I noticed black stains on my white vest and white jersey. At first, I thought it must be grease. Then, I got home and realized that my gloves had stained my clothing. I soaked the vest and the shirt and now have them both in the washer. Hopefully, the stains will come out.

Because of this, I cannot recommend these gloves -- unless you don't care about stains on your clothes or you're only planning to use the gloves with cheap gear. It's a pity, though, because the gloves themselves are actually quite nice.
