Low-profile is an understatement.
Precisely wrapping your head with its two-piece articulating shell, the Giro Range MIPS Helmet is the lowest profile helmet ever created by Giro. Conform Fit technology goes beyond other helmet's adjustable liners with its semi-flexible hardshell, controlled via an adjustable dial. Ultimately, this innovative design results in a streamlined fit without the bulky, bobble-head feel of traditional helmets. The Range MIPS seamlessly integrates with Giro Goggles, courtesy of its subtle brim that eliminates unsightly gaps.
Looking beyond the superb fit of the helmet, MIPS technology protects your head from damaging rotational impacts. Standing for Multi-Directional Impact Protection System, MIPS helmets feature an elastomeric attachment system along the Low Friction Liner, which creates a slip plane in the event of an angled impact. This slip plane mimics the brain's natural protection of cerebrospinal fluid, allowing the foam liner to rotate independently around your head, subsequently reducing rotational forces to the brain.
Adjusting airflow with the flick of a sliding button, Thermostat Control gives you customized ventilation for warm spring days and blustery snowstorms alike. The Stack Vent sits over the top of your goggles, preventing condensation build-up during sweaty uphill slogs and socked-in storm days. Giro integrated a GoPro mount along the upper brim for a better point of view, also eliminating the need for a stick-on mount. Other key features include X-Static fibers along the liner for lasting freshness, a Fidlock magnetic buckle for use with gloves, and audio-compatible ear pads with Outdoor Tech speakers (not included).

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I like really low profile, lightweight helmets. This thing fits like a glove. The adjustment feature is awesome as are the rest of the features of the helmet. By far it is the most well engineered and well thought out helmet I've ever worn.
Great, Comfortable Fit
I wear a large helmet because I have an abnormally big head. My head is oval-shaped. Finding a helmet that fits well is challenging. More so because I fall right on the line between medium and large. Medium is always just on the verge of uncomfortably tight and large is always just on the cusp of being too loose.
This helmet fits like a glove that is designed for freakishly large, oval-shaped heads.
It is not, however, low-profile. Yes, the rise off the top of my head is slightly, minimally lower than my old POC helmet and slightly less than the Pret Effect X helmet I just bought and sold for a big loss (because I missed the used gear return date), but it is still a big-ass helmet. Even after dialing in the fit and feeling the shell conform to the shape of my head, the lateral space this beast takes up disqualifies it as "low-profile". It just shifts the vertical savings to the sides of the helmet. Kind of feel like an Imperial Storm Blooper. Whether it looks less bulky, well, I'll let the ladies decide.
That being said, the fit is tremendous. It's so light and comfy you actually do forget you're wearing a plastic ball on your head. And the adjustability of the fit is so good, for the first time ever, I could actually wear a balaclava if I chose to. Not that I would.
The only other feature worth noting is the goggle venting. It works. Can't imagine why so many helmet makers don't include goggle vents.
Best helmet I've ever owned (Smith, POC, Pret).
Best fitting helmet ever!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
This is the best helmet I have ever owned. I say that for a few reasons: it fits great, it looks great, it is durable, and it is super low profile.
Fit: The articulating shell creates the best fit I have ever had in a helmet. The whole helmet tightens up on your head (the shell actually moves together) by spinning the wheel on the back. This creates a snug, yet comfortable custom fit. It also has a great vent system that lets me cool off on spring days.
Look: I have the Mil Spec Olive color and paired it with the matching Contact Goggles. It is a great looking combination that works together seamlessly. The low-profile design makes it look and feel less bulky than some helmets I’ve had in the past.
Durability: I’ve taken this helmet around the world and it still looks and functions great. I usually go through a helmet a season (120-150 days on snow a year), and this helmet has held up better than any I’ve had in the past. The Mil Spec Olive color is stylish yet understated and the matte material seems fairly scratch resistant.
I’ve been impressed with almost every aspect of this helmet. If you want a quality durable helmet that looks and feels great, look no further.
what is the head size for Mens M and L?
