Give pause.

Giordana took inspiration from the Italian word for "pause" when creating its Men's Sosta Winter Jacket, thinking about the times we choose to ride for the sake of riding, rather than for strict splits and goal paces. Those types rides often happen more frequently in the off-season, when we're finished with training schedules and weekend races. So, the rain and wind that accompany the off-season are exactly the conditions Giordana developed the Sosta to handle. Its three-layer polyester/spandex shell comes coated in a water-repellent DWR coating, which blocks rain and strong gusts, while remaining breathable as you warm up.

Underneath its efficient shell, the Sosta comes with a merino wool lining, responsible for both insulating and using its natural ability to regulate temperature to keep you dry throughout your ride. Whether you pair the Sosta with a baselayer or thermal jersey, it will consistently ferry moisture to its surface to evaporate so you don't end up cold and clammy after a tough climb to a gusty summit. Reflective accents help you stand out on dim, late fall roads, and three rear pockets are complemented by a zippered individual pocket to hang onto ride snacks and a view-capturing smartphone. As this is a more relaxed jacket, Giordana tailored the Sosta to be an easy layering piece, without giving it a hint of sloppiness. Its slim fit matches an equally clean style we're unsurprised, but still thrilled to see from the Italian firm.

Just got the jacket, used for 2 1/2 hour ride, 38 F and windy. Wore Craft baselayer, no jersey. It was perfect! Soft fabric, very comfortable, good fit, useful pockets. lightweight wool lining is great. Lots of positive feedback from friends at post-ride coffee. Only comment is tail is pretty long, and i'm pretty tall for most medium.

Looks Good, runs very small

This is a very typical Italian product, lots of style, very small fit. I thought I would take a chance since there was a 3XL available that it might be large enough. These run very small, I would say it is equal to an XL in US clothing fit. I wear a Castelli wind jacket in 2XL and it fits well. This was much smaller. I normally buy a 2XL tall in men's shirts.

Winter Jacket Review

Familiarity:

I used this jacket in SLC for a weekend. It was very comfortable and breathed well. I liked the print how it was not so bland but yet not over the top. I think it will hold well and appears to be made very well. I would buy another but they are pretty pricey.

Initial impressions after one month

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

True to size

I did just use the jacket in very windy, slightly rainy 45 degree weather. I had only a very light summer tank on underneath and was never the least bit cold. I found the ventilation and sweat management to be excellent. I did not feel any drafts in 35 mph gusts and I did not note any flapping of the fabric despite a very loose cut. That said, I am thinking about sizing down although, according to Giordana sizing, this size large should be perfect (for reference: I am 5'8", 170, waist 34, larger shoulders, chest size 41 inches by recent measurement). There are a ton of pockets, more than any other cycling specific jacket I know of - 2 hand pockets, small cell phone pocket in front and unique zipper in the back behind which reveals 2 deep storage pockets and a small pocket that fit my mini wallet perfectly. I purchased the jacket in black - the pixelated "Giordana" in reflective is not hidden as in the other color offered and may or may not suit your aesthetic. The sewing is meticulously done throughout. The front zipper is not as smooth as I think it should be for a jacket of this cost however, I did not find it helpful to open and close it to vent as I found the ventilation quite adequate even with the front zipper all the way closed so having to always use 2 hands to use the zipper may not be as big of a problem as I initially thought (I know, horrible run--on sentence). This is definitely not a racing jacket but more of a high-end cruiser. My initial reservations about its durability are mitigated due to its meticulous construction and pajama-like comfort. I intend to use it all winter and will update this review if necessary in the future. Update after 2nd ride: This jacket is wonderful! I still wish the front zipper was smoother but I have grown to enjoy the loose fit. My only disappointment is that only now, just days after I bought the jacket, Competitive Cyclist has put all Giordana, including this jacket, on sale. My timing sucks. Another update: The jacket is very warm. I think with the right baselayer you could definitely be comfortable quite a bit below freezing. I think the maximum temperature for this jacket is somewhere around 50 degrees.

Call them. If you are within the return policy time period they will refund you the diff on the recent sale price. Easy peasy.

Thanks for your review, I'm looking for a jacket with at least water repellency, I got caught in a rainstorm at 40°s and as you would imagine it was almost hypothermic when pedaling and the wind is hitting you, any suggestions on a jacket? Thanks AM.
