Edge Explore Bike Computer
With the Edge Explore Bike Computer from Garmin, you can get ready to do just that, explore, by utilizing the functionality of its renowned cycling computers with refinements for the cyclist looking to do some touring or just checking out some new routes. It's chocked full of features so you can chart out rides, pair with Garmin cycling awareness devices, and stay connected, as well as tracking distance, speed, time, and the like. Think of it as the ideal cycling partner that doubles as a tour guide that always knows the right route to take.
Of course, more and more cyclists are using Strava to compare efforts and see where they stack up among others in the cycling community. Garmin Connect does a pretty good job, however, the real K/QOM segments live on Strava and the Explore lets you add apps such as Strava, letting you easily upload your efforts and check the results from the saddle of your bike. Heading out under ominous skies and want to check the weather quickly without taking off your gloves or wiping the raindrops off the touchscreen? Have the Accuweather app handy and you'll be prepared, and if you do get rained on, the IPX7 rating means the Explore can handle it, no problem. On a bike tour and need to quickly find a hotel for the night or a good place to eat? Have the Yelp app ready and your Garmin Explore will navigate you directly to the front door.
We've never been more aware of cycling safety than now. More and more motorists are distracted and even with all of the high visibility clothing and daytime running lights, cyclists must always be on guard. The Edge Explore is fully compatible with Garmin's Varia cycling awareness devices including its smart bike lights and rearview radar that notifies you of approaching cars as well as alerting riders. And if something does happen, when paired with a compatible smartphone, fellow riders and loved ones can note your location with LiveTrack and GroupTrack and send messages to one another. Additionally, the computer features a built-in incident detector that can notify up to 3 contacts if an emergency occurs.
Perhaps the most important functionality with the Explore is its mapping ability. It comes preloaded with Garmin Cycle Maps so you can upload a ride with turn-by-turn navigation and the GPS keeps you located no matter where your ride takes you on pavement, dirt, and gravel. It also uses Trendline popularity routing, drawing from over a billion miles of uploaded data from cyclist to find routes most-travel by riders making it ideal if you're trying to figure out a ride and your out of town.
