    Zed 12 Binding with Leash

The new Zed 12 Binding with Leash is G3's lightest binding, borrowing all the best elements from the well-loved Ion to create a set of clamps that can take you further and still offer up the reliability you require when you're far back in the mountains. With a single screw to fully adjust the vertical and lateral release as well as a trimmed-down shape, the Zed definitely walks close to the line of a minimalist binding, yet has everything you need for a confidence-inspiring descent and optimal efficiency on the ascent.

G3's QuickFlick heel lifts offer up to different heights for proficiency on steep skintracks, and are easy to deploy with the flick of your ski pole. Anti-snowpacking features are built into the toe to prevent snow and ice from building up and compromising your step-in, and, if you need to adjust the Zed on the fly, you can do so with a single tool. When it comes time to descend, you'll appreciate the elasticity in the toe that provides maximum energy absorption for a smoother ride, as well as minimizes the likelihood of a pre-release. The wide mount of the binding creates a stable platform to elevate power transfer and precision from boot to binding to ski, meaning you can ski the line you just spent hours to get to with confidence and power. And you'll still have the energy to go back up for more.

    Best Tech Bindings Out There.

These bindings are awesome, the fact you can switch between a leash and brakes are great. I have found one drawback with the brakes however, snow/ice begins to pack down in between the turret and the brake attachment. This makes it so you have to knock the ice off prior to twisting the turret. However, it is really easy to use a pole to knock it off.

With the ever changing nature and range of shell design in AT Boots, it is crucial to make sure you are setting up your ZED Binding correctly. When you buy the ZED, make sure you or the shop technician installs the binding with the correct sized stomp pad or the brake. This will ensure that your are getting full support underneath the heel so the binding can operate as designed.

Many AT Tech/Pin compatible boots have varying heights and thicknesses of the heel and will require the brake (which is an add on purchase), a thin stomp pad or a thick stomp pad. The stomp pads and a measurement tool will come in the box with the binding to help you determine which one is correct for your boot.

I have attached pictures of boots with varying size heel heights. The green Dynafit boot is one that would be considered in the normal height range, while the blue salomon would be considered outside of the norm in heel height. The more you know!

    Absolutely Love Them

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been skiing the G3 Ion 12 for years and have been a big fan. When it came time for a new setup this season I wanted something lighter but had all the same functionality as the ION. Well the new Zed delivered. At over 200 grams lighter it does everything the Ion does and more. I love that you can remove the brake if you want to. This to me was the biggest downside of the Ion. When I was looking at a lot of the lighter weight bindings (350 grams or less) you just lost so much as you go down in weight. Binding that have no elasticity in the heel. Binding with U springs, so you could not adjust the release value. The ability to add a brake. No boot stops. Harder to step in. Not as easy to clear the snow from the toe. All these things I loved about the Ion were lacking in most of the light weight binding. I really think that the Zed is a total game changer in the light weight performance touring category.

We have had a killer November here in Colorado and I have managed to get out on mine 5 days now. I can tell a difference in the weight and I feel like they ski just as good as the Ion. I am using them on a G3 Seeker 100mm waist. I can not wait to get them on some longer for some Hut and Yurt trips planned for the summer.

    Absolutely Love Them
