A good thing.
FOX Racing Shox's history of targeted innovation demonstrates that it doesn't feel the need to constantly make updates for the sake of having something new to boast about. For 2017, FOX is content with the advancements it made last year and confident that the design is the best it has to offer — for now. The 36 Float 27.5 140 3Pos-Adj FIT4 Fork's wide range of adjustability and lightweight, consistent, dual-spring air chamber continue to provide an enviable balance between weight and enduro capability.
As you and your enduro rig chug down apocalyptic lines, you'll have the option to choose between the FIT4 damper's Firm, Medium, and Open settings. For anything more daunting than sidewalk cracks, we see no reason not to choose the latter, which itself features an additional range of sub settings to allow you to take full advantage of the fork's range of high-riding travel.
Firm and Medium encompass their own well-defined spaces. Medium is able to take over on lumpy flats and rolling stretches of unruly hard pack, and Firm's lockout setting is relegated strictly to fire road transitions and the steepest, smoothest climbs. This versatility and control is backed by FOX's dual-chamber air spring, a self-equalizing design that dumped weight over previous coil spring models. Additionally, you'll have the reliability of Kashima-coated aluminum stanchions and magnesium lowers offering the dependability you've come to know and expect from FOX.

This fork… holy cow. It belongs on every long travel bike. I know, I know, blanket statement, but I think the fork is THAT good. I used to be nervous of square edges, rock gardens, roots, ruts, and plain old crap, this thing just soaks it up. “Confidence inspiring” doesn’t do it justice.
This fork tracks where I want it to go, doesn’t feel like dead weight, and is supple. I truly feel that at every moment, this fork is setting me up to literally overcome my obstacle.
With the new FIT4 damper, this fork has truly useful Compression modes and is simple an intuitive to adjust and tune. Unless you really like to geek out on suspension (I’m guilty!) the LSC, Rebound, and Air Volume adjustments are all you’ll need and are super easy to get dialed in.
And yes, I’ve ridden on a Pike. And yes I’d take the Fox. Every time.
Building a new bike? Upgrading the current whip? Give me a shout and I’ll make sure you get the perfect build.
Even if you’re not ready to pull the trigger, reach out if you have questions like:
- What do all the knobs and dials do?
- How do I set my suspension for me?
- Which fork is right for my bike?
