Ride hard and look good doing it.

When it comes to quality off-road apparel, the folks at Fox Racing are leading the way. At Fox, the recipe tends to be equal parts innovation and style, so almost everything that it makes feels good on a bike and looks fresh at the pub post-ride. Take the Ranger Shorts, for example. Stretch fabric and a removable Evo chamois liner keep you cool, dry, and free to move around for hours in the saddle. When the ride is over, the simple, timeless solid color and stylish longer cut take over. If you're going to be out on the town, just ditch the liner and head out.

Don't let the subtle styling fool you — the Ranger shorts are well-equipped. A quick-dry polyester construction ensures cool and dry comfort, even on all-day epics. Meanwhile, two-way stretch eliminates binding for an unlimited range of motion. The removable liner makes the Ranger as comfortable as spandex tights, but a little more public-friendly. The other real benefit of the removable liner is that you're able to use it with your other shorts or with softshell baggie pants for winter riding. In a way, that makes the Ranger one of the most versatile shorts on the market.

Great shorts for the short guy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large

These shorts will last several years. It has a very good liner with sufficient padding in all the right areas. With my shorts and seat combo I am very comfortable on my mountain bike and could go all day. The shorts fabric is tough and flexible. I have thick thighs and these shorts gave me enough breathing room. I feel comfortable when riding them. I gave these shorts 5 stars because they are rock solid for my body type. I am 5'6 with thick legs developed from years of soccer and decades of active sports. I also liked the Velcro adjustable tabs on the side. Although, some might prefer a belt.
The negatives. No zipper for the necessity of urinating. The side pockets are unusable while biking, but are fine for normal walking around the parking lot. The shorts run standard American...which means large. Using a pair of Louis Garneau shorts as a comparison, the Fox Racing ranger shorts are a full size larger around the waist and legs, but are a full size shorter at the inseam. These are great shorts for the shorter rider, but have some flaws. Anytime, I can get a pair of shorts with a liner, that fits my body type, and will enable me to bike all, day for years..then I give it 5 stars and overlook the absence of a zipper to pee.

    meh, doesn't fit me right

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 225lbs

These are no frills shorts with no zipper fly. I don't mind the lack of pockets (just the two standard thigh pockets)but not having a zipper fly is a ridiculous way to save money on an otherwise solid, affordable riding short.

    Wish it had zippered pockets

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Super great short, very comfortable, and fits really well (not too long.) My only complaint is that these don't have zippered pockets.

    Great for Shorter Riders

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 30
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I just got these shorts and so far am loving them. They have a really simple design with the solid color and just two hand pockets, so they work great for biking but don’t look flashy when you’re rocking them around town. They also have a shorter inseam than many of the other bike shorts on the market which is great for shorter riders like myself. I’m 5’8 and these reach about the middle of my knee, covering the top of my knee pads when I’m wearing them. My only complaint about these shorts, and the reason I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars, is that the included liner is made from a pretty thick material and isn’t as breathable as I would like. A zipper pocket would be nice too, but for the price these shorts are hard to beat!

    good for the price

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I bought these primarily based on the price to replace a worn out pair. The chamois is sufficient and the general fit is reasonable. I'm usually a medium or 32 in most items, and the 32 was baggier than expecting. That being said, all of my expectations have been met so far. When riding I usually put any small thing (phone, chapstick, key) in my backpack so the lack of a zippered pocket isn't an issue.

    weird fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 6'
    • Weight: 180lbs

the shorts seem to fit well when you are standing up, but get on a bike and they ride up your thighs. They are also really tight. I would not buy these again. The material is good, the chamois is good but they feel tight and small when riding.

    Good shorts for the price

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Shorts are well made and fit well. Chamois/liner is a little tight around the thighs.

    Excellent Shorts for the Money

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 44
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 280lbs

Backcountry was a better Price than Amazon and shipping was fast and free (over $50). The quality of the shorts seems excellent. They are breathable and the removable liner shorts are awesome. I ordered a 44 (I'm a big guy) and since most every other cycling short I get runs small I crossed my fingers they would fit. They actually were very true to size (maybe even an inch or so big). I am actually going to take then in about an inch or so, but I'd order your actual size when purchasing. (I wear an Old Navy 42 loose fit jean, I think the 42 would have fit near identical). I plan on ordering a pair soon and will just have these taken in to match.

    So far so good.

    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 170lbs

I'm 5'9", 170. I wear 33" relaxed fit jeans for the thighs. The inner liner on the 32" ranger fits me just right. The outer short I need to cinch pretty tight in the waist. With no shirt under the shorts the velcro tabs tend to dig in a bit (lost a star). I found the inner liner comfortable for a couple hour ride.

    No zippered pockets

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 34
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 185lbs

Shorts are light, breathable, and comfortable. The chamois is a chamois, so no complaints there. My only problem with these shorts is that there isn't a zippered pocket anywhere on said short.

Last season I bought a pair of the orange Ranger shorts. They were just what I wanted although, orange was a bit much. I ordered the black ones knowing what to expect.
Kudos for the no zipper front.
However, why do companies need to change their fit? My Orange Rangers fit perfect leaving the adjustable velcro exactly in the middle. These new black ones barely stay on with the velcro as tight as possible.
My older Orange pair still fit great. It wasn't me who changed Fox!

    Solid pair of basic shorts

    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 31
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 155lbs

A decent pair of shorts for a good price. Lacks all the bells and whistles of the more expensive ones, but hey. I'm really just looking for a decently durable short that is comfortable to wear and so far it has held up. I havent used the chamois as I usually wear road bibs underneath the shell so I don't have any feedback to give there. I wish there was an additional zipper pocket to store keys or phone securely, but again, pricepoint short. Definitely runs big as I'm closer to a size 31 waist and fit in the size 30 no problem

    • Size Bought: 36
    • Height: 5'6"

These fit well, true to size. The chamois is nice. The material of the shorts reminds me of bandage material. Like and Ace bandage or something. Definitely wont shed and kind of water. Weird but not crazy weird that there is no zipper. Just a button. If you have to pee, youre unbuttoning for sure. Pockets are okay, not very deep, but will hold cell phone and whatever without falling out. I'll wear them cuz I am too lazy to send back (my fault). I'll revise after a bunch of rides. So far have only logged 30 miles in them.
