As other reviewers note the lack of velcro or a zipper on the fly was a bit disconcerting. However, the fly is shorter than usual and there is some stitching to make it more secure than other shorts would be without a zipper. As the size does run large, I find that I have to ratchet the closure almost all the way. With the pants sealed like that, I have had no trouble with the fly at all. The fabric is great, feels durable, very stretchy, and breathes surprisingly well given the durable feel of the short. The side pockets are large enough for a large phone, but keep the contents out of the way for pedaling. It is hard to see from the picture but the fabric actually varies in different zones, but without apparent seams. This may be how they breath so well. One of my favorite shorts for this hot humid east coast summer.
