The perfect plan for unpredictable weather
Fox Racing’s packable Dawn Patrol Vest provides quality protection when you need it, which makes it the perfect piece for the variable conditions of early spring and fall. The Dawn Patrol features a breathable nylon shell that is designed to shield you from light rain and heavy wind without causing you to overheat. In addition, the shell is treated with a DWR (durable water repellant) coating to ensure that you stay dry, and a rear vent panel provides excellent ventilation. Fox includes reflective details throughout to ensure that you stay visible in low-light condition. And if the sun starts to shine bright, the Dawn Patrol can be packed down into a fist-sized ball to be easily stowed.

Relaxed/loose fit, not athletic fit
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Large
- Height: 5'8"
- Weight: 170lbs
Based on other reviews I sized up and bought a large when I typically wear medium in everything (mtb jerseys/shorts and casual clothing). This is definitely a relaxed or "mtb fit," not at all an athletic fit. On my frame, the large was huge, and possibly two sizes too big. If it's supposed to have a relaxed/loose fit, then it's probably true to size.
Otherwise it's a nice vest for mtb. Light weight and packable and would provide wind protection without being too warm.
I returned it and am keeping a Pearl Izumi vest that fits better.
Favorite outer layer
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I will agree with other reviews, it does run a bit small. Fox as a company seems to be transition to "euro sizing" where I have gone from being an XL for 20 years, and now all of a sudden I'm a 2XL (no weight gain). That being said, since this is a vest and not a jacket, I still wear the XL just fine- since there are no sleeves I don't bind up at all. As for it feeling cheap, I have no clue how they came to that conclusion, it's not at all. It is extremely thin and light, but that's the whole point. It's a very stowable, minimal vest that provides very good wind breaking, a little bit of water resistance (not proofing) and adds no bulk whatsoever. I ride fairly aggressive Enduro sort of riding during the cold months and this lives in my pack. It rolls up so small you could put it in a water bottle cage container or a seat bag, but I just keep it in my hydro pack where it takes up very little of my available space. I've put it through the wringer during 2 winters of use (I fat bike so I ride all winter)- probably 50 rides, it's been through the wash multiple times and it still looks like I just bought it. One thing I love is that you can often get away with just wiping it down with a damp cloth or sponge and hang it up, as the dirt and mud doesn't really seem penetrate the material. Overall it's my favorite outer layer and my go to time and again. Only complaint is that Fox discontinued it.
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: XL
- Height: 6'2"
- Weight: 195lbs
Ordered this vest a while ago and returned it. First off, it runs small to size. Secondly, you can see the construction is very cheap.
The detail pictures include two of the back of this vest: one that shows a pocket and the other with no pocket. Which is it?
Appears the all black one has a pocket. The camp jacket I ordered does NOT have a pocket in the back.
