    Smythe Bib

Weekend traffic, crowded liftlines, icy slopes—you don't want any part of all that. For those that would rather wander than be told where to go there's the Flylow Smythe Bib. Designed to give you performance movement, total weather protection, and breathability all in a lightweight package, these bibs were made for long days spent hunting for dream lines in the backcountry. The Intuitive Perm fabric is stretchy and air-permeable to get you through steep and grueling bootpacks, and offers waterproof protection for days you wish you brought a snorkel. You've got lots of convenient storage for even the most intense backcountry excursions, with three pack-strap compatible chest pockets, and two thigh pockets that are accessible with a harness on. Outer thigh vents let you quickly release heat when you reach the summit, and heavy-duty Cordura reinforcements around the ankles ensure durability after long seasons of alpine adventures.

    New Bibs!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 125lbs

I am a hard-skiing Utah resident that has owned a number of bibs (and non-bib ski pants) in the past, and these Flylow Smythe Bibs are quickly becoming my go-to for both backcountry tours and resort riding in any type of weather.

I got these to replace a pair of competing bibs (the brand rhymes with "curtain") that I loved through several years of hard use but unfortunately tore while hitting a tree. I first looked at the new model of the same pants as a replacement, but decided I wanted to try something new. I’m glad I did.

The Flylow Smythe Bib is made of material that is lightweight, waterproof (even in the depths of a storm) and seems sturdy enough to handle normal amounts of bushwhacking. The fit is true to size, not too baggy, but also not restrictive or tight, and there’s plenty of room to move in all sorts of directions. I’m ~6’, 175 lbs, and was between sizes so I ordered a large and am happy I sized up, but if I wanted a slimmer fit I believe the medium would have provided that.

The pockets are plentiful, deep, and well-placed, and the zippers and seams keep out wind and water. The only reason I docked a star from the review is the venting – the side-entry zipper on the left doubles as a big vent with a corresponding vent on the right leg that is much shorter. It would be nice to have a bit of a bigger right vent or even internal leg vents, but that’s a personal preference.

Also, though I don’t put fashion over function in my outerwear purchases, I actually really appreciated the color options for these pants, as men’s ski clothing is often very loud and garish. Flylow’s fernet color is a nice, dark, subtle color that allows me to clandestinely disappear into the trees in search of powder stashes without drawing attention from anyone who may be looking to poach my favorite lines.

If you want a solid, lightweight but sturdy pant to keep you dry and warm without looking like you’re wearing your big brother’s outerwear, the Flylow Smythe Bib is a great choice.

    Why Would You Not?

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 161lbs

These are some SOLID bibs! They stay super light while keeping you dry all day long. The insane amount of pockets (and accessibility of said pockets) are killer and super useful for whatever you may need to carry. These are more breathable than other bibs, so they kill it in the backcountry when you're working hard, but you can still rock them inbounds and even keep the zips closed all the way for chilly night turns if you're so inclined. I'm 6'2" and grabbed a large and they fit like a dream!

The actual title wouldn't be accepted...

    ... they're that good.

I gave as a gift and have some feed back: I’m 6’2” and 180# and the large fit perfect. Just the right amount of room without being baggy. Super light weight but I’ve used them in sub freezing temps with the right base layers and I’ve never been cold. And they also have the perfect amount of “stretchiness” that I never felt restricted. These will be my go to for uphill as well as days at the resort.

Seriously what are you waiting for!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 172lbs

My first pair of high end bibs and I have to say I can't believe I waited so long to purchase.

I know that these are more for the backcountry skier, but for what I ride at the resort I love them. I wanted something light, breathable, and a great fit. Riding the Alpine board keeps you pretty warm when you are hitting it pretty hard so not much of a need for insulation.

I am an avid cyclist and if i needed to double up on baselayers on the legs, these might get a bit tight in the leg, everywhere else they fit great. Love the pockets on the bib as welll. Great for holding phone, car keys etc....

With my boarding boots I have to have the pant leg up a bit on one side to reach the release and even though these fit really well they had enough room for me to get it above that release trigger.

I'm 5'9" with a 32" inseam and bounce between a 32 and 34 inch waste depending on holiday food intake.

I picked up a medium size.

Seriously what are you waiting for!

    Pretty Rad Bib

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 190lbs

I have been using this bib for about 3 months now, and have put a significant amount of mileage into them in the backcountry. I am happy that there are so many functional features to this shell. The front pockets on the bib have been super rad. Really good place to stash chapstick, crystal card, slope meter, compass, etc. I've found that the pant breathes pretty well for the most part. The only issue that I've really been getting is that the actual bib creates a swamp effect and it leaves my chest region pretty soaked after a long day on the skin track. Obviously if you're wet you're not warm! Besides that, the pant is rad. I appreciate the Cordura cuffs and the extra room for movement in the knee. The bib moves with you, and it's definitely durable. Super waterproof as well. Really I think that this is a solid choice, and the only minor issue I had was a lack of breathability in the torso region. If you're all about light weight function, this is a solid choice, for sure.

    Bibs for everyday

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S - XS
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 120lbs

These bibs are comfortable, stylish and high performance. They work great for touring and great for resort skiing. The features and the fit are just a couple things that make these bibs so rad. They don't sag when you're hiking, they can store gear, and they pares well. Along with the fact that they breath and block moisture. Love them!

    Incredible piece of attire

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I got these for my boyfriend as an upgrade on his Flylow Baker bibs and he couldn't be happier. These are less baggy than the Baker bibs and are fantastic for both touring and resort skiing. Tons of pockets that have all been designed in a logical way, great vents, and super comfortable material. Flylow continues to raise their game year after year and the Smyth bibs are the gold standard.
