Chemical Pant

No matter how cold and snowy it gets, when you move fast enough, you have to let your boys breathe. The FlyLow Gear Chemical Pant keeps all the pow out during big lines but lets in a cool breeze during the skin back up the ridge. And since you work for your turns, this pant's inner and outer thigh vents get you all the ventilation you need to keep skinning and lapping your favorite zone. But the goodness doesn't stop there—FlyLow added super burly Cordura reinforcements along the knees and cuffs to keep this pant in tip-top shape whether you're dropping knees on a deep powder day or boot packing up rocky ridge lines en route to a big descent.

These, as others have stated, are rather baggy and long. A good 2-3" longer than my Flylow Magnum Pro Pants, which fit great, but two years in, aren't as waterproof as they once were. Anyways, these pants are probably cool if you're at least 6'.

I wore my old Chemical pants for eight seasons of 50-100 days a season and couldn’t ask for more so it was a no brained to get another pair. I bought the same size (large) but the new ones are three inches longer and baggier all around so I will be exchanging for a medium. More importantly there is a small housing for the outer leg vent made out of seam tape that is very rigid and it cut the back of my knee after a day of touring; not cool. The last problem I had with the fit is that the low hanging crotch was restricting for kick turns without having them pulled up to my belly button. I really hope these issues will be resolved by going down a size since I loved my old Chemical Pants but as is they were a let down.

This pant is awesome. Finally a pant that actually does everything well. Venting system is stellar, cuffs are big enough to actually fit over your boots without having to fight with them. That stand up to tree skiing and abuse. They have good size adjustment features and they fit true to size. The ample leg room provides great mobility without the pant pulling when you are climbing something awkward. They are roomy, so if you wear skinny jeans...look elsewhere! I bought a large...

I normally wear 32x32 jeans for reference. These pants fit perfect. Loose without being baggy, length just right, good fit over the boot. Super tough material. They don't bead water as well as higher end stuff, but I have yet to get wet even in some pretty wet PNW days. I got the medium, but a large would be better if I wanted a baggier look. Would buy again.

Great pants, but lose waterproofing

Pants fit well and are not insulated. They have great pockets and extra durable fabric in key regions (knees, inside ankles). The pants lost their waterproofing in the first ski season of wearing them (80+ ski days) but held up great for 3 years of 80+ day seasons.

Everything was high-quality and seemingly of fine construction, like I have experienced from Flylow. Only problem for me was the inside lining, which hindered my freedom-of-movement/range-of-motion. My previous Flylow experience is with the Snowman insulated pants, which allow me to move unhindered. I do a lot of hiking and such. Oh well.

Great Pants So Far

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

These are definitely some of the best pants I've owned. The fabric is fully waterproof so far, the zips offer great ventilation and the cordura reinforcements are great. The cut is a little wonky, they're tight around the waist and pretty loose through the legs. I have the maize ones and they get dirty super fast, which is a kind of a bummer.

Great Baggies

I bought these for my boyfriend for Christmas, here's what he had to say: "These are probably one of the better pants for skiing I've ever owned. I would say they fit true to size in terms of the waist, but note that these are a bit on the baggy side but still perfectly functional. For fitting reference, I typically wear a 33 in Prana's and the Large fit me well. I am about 6'1-6'2 maybe 180lbs if that helps. They are anything but short in the inseam so length is not going to be an issue if your inseam is longer. I got the Black color, the black is a super dark charcoal/grey color.. while being black. If that makes any sense. I also have had a couple chances to wear these in all snow conditions and they are nice and warm if paired well with a good base layer. I wore these up on the slopes at Snow Basin and it was 20 degrees and snowing. I was warm and dry after being out there for 3-5 hours of skiing fresh powder. Runs large

Fit:
Runs large

product runs slightly large in terms of bagginess/length, so would recommend a medium to anyone between medium/large, though would note the waist will be a bit snug. A good-looking piece of equipment, sturdy but flexible enough to be athletic. The color and style are as expected and am very satisfied with the product.

I bought these pants at the beginning of last season and have put over 50 days on them. I have done everything from lapping the resort to hiking couloirs in the backcountry. I have gotten 3 holes in these pants which I have patched using a combination of tenacious and gorilla tape. So far I have experienced no leakage. I like that they breathe well and have full venting however I do have some issues with these pants. I find the waist tight and restrictive where the rest of the pant fits great. To solve this I keep them as loose as possible and use suspenders. I have also been disappointed in the durability. In addition to the holes the fabric on the the front thighs has pilled from falls. I would give these pants a 3.5 if possible.

Great ski pant, especially for the money

Fit:

I originally ordered this pant in a large based on the comments others have made about sizing. I am 6'2" 195 with a 35" waist and immediately found the pants too small. My Gearhead was great in helping me return them, create a credit and order the XL. I got the XL size quickly and when I tried them on they were perfect. I cinched the waist straps and wont need a belt. The length is also great, I am more leg than torso and I was worried the pant would be too short but when I put them on with my ski boots they were just right. I ski about 20 days a year and am not interested in paying high prices for something simple like a ski pant. I have 2 other Flylow products (Down coat and vest) and wear them all the time. When I started shopping for ski pants I went straight for Flylow as I know I wont be disappointed or pay more than I should have to.

The chemical plant is kind of like a futuristic version of your favorite pair of Carhartt pants. These pants are DURABLE and really waterproof. They have huge vents for when things get hot on the skin track, or when the dancing gets heated during Apres. The best pants I have owned hands down.

These pants are super burly, but aren't heavy and clunky. Mine have held up through multiple seasons of skiing, and are still super waterproof. The huge zippers also make hiking/touring a breeze. Love these pants.

Eric, how did you find the medium fit? I'm about your size if not a touch bigger, and am torn between the medium and small. What's your waist size? Are these super baggy?

I'm 5'9 and 197lbs with a 36 in waist. should I go with a large or xxl in the Flylow Chemical pants.

Hey, I'd say with a 36 waist, you're on the edge of both sizes. For me, it would come down to whether I prefer a tighter pant or a loser pant. So if you want a tigher pant, go Large. If you want a loser pant, go XL. Shoot me an email anytime you have questions! Jared D. Expert Gearhead 801.736.4336 jdowns@backcountry.com

Im 5'11" and wear a 34" waist pant. Anyone have any sense if I should go medium or large? Feel like I'm right on the cusp.

The large would fit you best in these pants. The medium would fit but would not allow much room for layers underneath. The large would allow more room for layers and the 32 inch inseam would fit you well.

disagree repectfully with Dan...have owned a few pair and the large will be like a sail on you. If you like wearing them lower toward your hips or have a ahorter inseam size medium regular is fine. If you have longer legs and wear them a little higher order a medium-tall from Flylow.

6'1-6'2, 33 waist, 180 lbs. Large?

Hey, Large will be perfect! I'm 6'2" 175, 32waist, I do have to wear a belt. and the length is perfect! Medium didn't fit me correct. I love these pants. I have the bibs too. Hope that helps!

medium -tall from Flylow directly...sorry BC but you folks should have stocked the tall inseam length for a few of the taller guys etc. These run big fyi. Cheers

My guess is that you wear a size 30 pant so I am going to suggest a size small.

You are correct. That's what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

I'm 5'7, around 145-150 lbs., and my waist measures 31". Should I go with a Small or Medium? Thanks.

You are right between the sizes, so you could go either way, depending on how you like the fit. There is a sizing chart below the price that may help.

Thanks a lot for pointing out the sizing chart. Based on the chart I think the Small might be the better option. I like a relaxed fit, but don't want them to be falling down.
