Robust pants extend hiking season

These pants are pretty good for hiking in. They have reinforced knees, lots of pockets, and are quite light. They have quite a few poppers for the pockets, and round the ankle to tighten that area in perhaps wet or snowy conditions. These are not the pants for you if you do not like poppers. They are not lined, so are warm enough when hiking, even in cold fall conditions, but don't provide a lot of insulation when not moving. They are decent wind, water and scratch protection. In summer I would prefer to hike in shorts, these pants extend the hiking season into late fall, or early spring. They look OK too.

I bought these for fall hiking and they are excellent! They are windproof and have tons of handy pockets. I would caution though in getting the "Long" version of these versus the regular ones as I made that mistake and had to return the Long for the Reg. Highly recommend

Durable Pants for Every Outdoor Endeavor

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

Featuring thick and durable fabrics, tons of pockets for storage, and a noteworthy design, the Vidda Pro Trousers from Fjallraven are a workhorse pant that's built to withstand every adventure. Made from Fjallraven's heavy-duty G-1000 fabric, the Vidda Pro's are a little thicker than your standard pair of hiking pants, but articulated knees and a cotton/polyester-blend fabric helps maintain mobility where you need it most. The fabric is reinforced on the knees and rear for increased durability whether you're starting a campfire or taking a load off in the dirt, and the fibers are infused with Greenland wax to make these babies waterproof. The pants run true to size at the waist and offer roomy amounts of space at the thigh and calf. Beyond the fabrics you'll find plenty of features that other outerwear brands would be wise to adopt. Two deep-hand front pockets store a phone or wallet with ease while large cargo pockets stow tools, snacks, and even your face mask - I often forget valuables in these pants simply because there are so many places to store everything. All cargo pockets make use of reliable button flaps, and the spacious pocket on the left leg contains a mesh divider for organized storage that just so happen to fit a bulky phone. At the base of each leg cuff you'll find snap button tighteners that allow you to cinch the cuffs closed around your boot as well as a concealed metal hook under the cuff that fastens to your boot lace to add a bit more protection. Though many are quick to dismiss the Vidda Pro's because of their hefty price tag, I've found these pants to be some of the best on the market when factoring in build quality, features, and fit. They may not be your first choice on a warm summer day due to their sturdy build, but you probably won't feel inclined to take them off when the temperatures begin to drop. I've been wearing mine for much longer than I care to admit.

After having these for only a few weeks, they already have become the favorite pants I own. Since I’m in the woods a lot of the time, the way the fabric sheds briars is a godsend. Wet dew in tall weeds and grasses bead up well and don’t make it to the skin so far. If these Pants continue to perform through the months and years as they do currently, they will probably be the only pant I wear.

I absolutely love these pants, I have three pairs of them now. The pockets are perfect for me. The one side has an inner elastic keeper that holds my phone perfect. I put my spot x in one and my wallet in one and a knife in another one and still have space left. Super durable . The only draw back is in the desert when it’s hot they are a little to warm.

Extremely well made and durable. They do however run a bit on the snug side. I’m 6’, 224#’s and typically wear a size-36 waist.

The material is super uncomfortable and the pants are too long and baggy. I am 5 foot 11 and 185 and the size 34 waist was way too long and baggy. This is not 1998 anymore.

I deer hunt in tree stands and found these Vidda Pros shed wind very well. Bought them a hair large so able to wear heavy base layers underneath for extra warmth. Additionally, these pants are briar proof so just.take off and don't worry about stopping too.remove sticker thorns off your legs.

Adventure-worthy pants that'll stand up to the test. Lightweight and breathable, yet incredibly durable and will still keep you warm when necessary. Great for day hikes and long treks, a day at the office or a night on the town, or simply a night spent around the campfire. Only suggestion, size up. 32 fits comfortably in the new Kebs, but could have used a 33/34 in the Vidda Pro's. Do yourself a favor and grab a pair for your next adventure.

Start with sizing, I wear 30s US and a 44 fits perfect I was first introduced to these pants, and the Fjallraven brand, while at an outlet in New York City. Wary of the high price point, I purchased a single pair to do a bit of testing. Two years later and I almost exclusively use Fjallraven for all my lower-body-clothing needs. The g1000 fabric is surprisingly quick drying despite being partially composed of cotton, furthermore it proved to be exceptionally hard wearing for how thing the pants seemed at first. The ability to waterproof with Greenland wax is an excellent feature, if not a bit annoying in repetitive practice. However I found the ability to choose between a breathable membrane and a shell to be extremely useful. My favorite feature, which truly converted me to Fjallraven, are the elastic cuffs which allow the user to adjust the leg closures to each activity. Finally, Fjallraven’s exceptional environmental standards certainly make me feel a bit better about buying from a large manufacturer.

Great Service...

First of all, I ordered the wrong pant. I meant to get the Vidda Pro and ordered another style by accident. The service of Backcountry was awesome. They made it extremely easy to return the wrong item and sent me the correct pant at no shipping cost to me. As far as the Vidda Pro goes, I just received them. The fit is perfect. I can't wait to get out in the mountains and try them out. They seem bomb-proof...I hope they are everything they appear to be. Thanks Backcountry!

but how are the seams?

These pans are tough as nails. The fit is definitely on the tighter side and as others have stated they run small in the hips and butt. Otherwise they are the perfect hill pant and I will buy again when and if these ever wear out (or if new colors come out lol)

Seems like a good pant but I have a very short inseam and the regular length was way too long. Not able to hem these due to cinch strap at the bottom. Need Long, regular and short sizes.

Thanks for the review, Scott!

Scott, if you have a Fjallraven store near you try asking if they do in-house alterations. I was able to get my regular Vidda Pros shortened to my inseam for free at my local store (Fjallraven La Brea in Los Angeles), and the seamstress was able to keep the lace hook and gaiters!

Scott, as noted by the other comments, Fjallraven stores will help you out with alterations! And if you ever find that you want a raw length and plan on hemming to the length you desire, the Barents Pro pant is 100% the same, but raw length hem.

These pants are incredible! Super durable, and with a bit of wax on them, waterproof. If I had to live and die in one pair of pants, it would for sure be these. Every time I slide my legs into them, I feel the forest calling to me and an axe waiting. Chopping wood is manly, but you haven't lived until you've tried it in these pants.

I use these pants as a work pant for various house/yard projects and they are awesome. Super burly material, lots of pockets to hold stuff while your'e running around, and the adjustable snaps on the cuff help tighten them up to keep them from dragging around. Would definitely recommend these if you're looking for a heavy duty pant for working, hiking, or just walking around town like a badass. I'm a consistent 34 waist and the 33-34/50EU fits me snug but well.

These are tough, not lightweight stretchy hiking pants. They are serious outdoor gear. Wear them hiking off trail, or cutting wood for winter. Well thought out and worth every penny.

Waterproof?

Hi Jason, while not truly waterproof, the G-1000 fabric has a really tight weave and "waxed" finish that will go a long way to shedding light to moderate amounts of moisture.

These pants state that they are partial cotton. Will that small amount of cotton cause hypothermia?
