Why We Like The Skogso Padded Jacket

The Skogso Padded Jacket is one of the lighter insulators in Fjallraven's massive collection of winter jackets, making it more suitable for the shoulder seasons as well as winter. Its G-Loft Supreme insulation is still plenty warm in snowy weather, and it stays warm even if it happens to get wet, which would be difficult considering the waxed shell beads moisture from rain and snow right off the fabric. The best part of waxed shells is that we can reapply Greenland Wax to the fabric for long-lasting weather protection.

Extremely Durable and Functional

I'm very pleased with everything about this jacket. The quality and durability are excellent and I'm baffled by the reviews stating the zipper is of poor quality. My jacket is extremely well-built and there are no quality control issues. In fact, it's the opposite; this thing is built like a tank and I expect it will last for decades. I'm 5'10" and 165 with a muscular build and the medium fits great. I think the only thing that would change is to make the hood a little smaller since this jacket really isn't designed to be worn with the hood over a helmet. You can sinch the hood down to a snug fit, which is critical for me in a jacket, but if not tightened down, I would describe it as a helmet compatible hood given how large it is. The pockets are numerous and well-placed and the bottom draw string is also a critical included feature which keeps drafts out. This jacket is very warm and really blocks the wind. I feel protected when I wear it and am bummed that it's already spring time! Overall, I highly recommend this extremely well-crafted piece and I'm looking forward to years of use!

Got it a month ago (on sale). waxed Dark Green, size M. I'm 5'7+, 170 - thicker athletic build, 41/32. Fjallraven's sizing isn't ideal for me, but the Jacket fits great - a touch tight in lats, but still allows for layering, slightly long for me, but so is everything. The functionality of this jacket is second to NONE. The pockets are spectacular (hand pockets, two exterior chest, and TWO interior chest with zippers, and two hat/glove pockets - perfection). The hood has great adjustability. Velcro cuffs are easy to adjust. Zero issue with the two-way European Zipper - does not feel cheap. I do have the Singi in size M, and that thing is massive.

Nice features but arms too long, quality concerns

Love the waxed cotton exterior with the cozy insulated interior, and I really appreciate the little organizers in the chest pockets. However, the arms are much too long and I find myself constantly fiddling with the wrist velcros trying to get them comfortable. This jacket needs shorter arms, and a thinner wrist velcro area, as the fabric bunches up and allows air in, while also being uncomfortable on bare skin. Additionally, the embroidery is already coming undone after about a week of wearing around town, and I have concerns about the quality of the zipper. Fjallraven, please take note of these concerns as this would be a perfect jacket otherwise.

Love it

Love it, fits great and is warm. I'm 5'8" 190# athletic build with broad shoulders, I generally hover between medium and large in shirts and I got a medium in this jacket and it fits perfectly. Wore it ski touring and alpine skiing recently and it held up great. Zipper does seem a little suspect though, no issues yet but as others have noted it may be a point of failure in the future.

Perfect coat for average winters except that zip!

Why why why won't Fjallraven listen to all the complaints about the zip? It's horrible, difficult to use, feels like it's made from cheap plastic. Half the time I can't get the pin into the box, plus it doesn't lock at the top nor bottom! So frustrating for an amazing jacket that I'd otherwise give 5 stars to. I'm 5'10" and 210lbs and the XL is nicely loose fitting enough so that I can easily wear a fleece or vest underneath if needed. I originally bought the Nuuk but found it to be too warm for winters in the south Appalachian region (20-30 degrees) so I exchanged it for the Skogso which has roughly half the insulation weight. If you live in truly colder climates you may find this one a little too light, and should go with the Nuuk. Love the padded hood which keeps my head toasty on its own without a beanie. I bought it in the Autumn Leaf color which is so unique, and stands out from everyone else who's wearing black jackets. Recommend the wax treatment to maintain the waterproofing after each winter.

The perfect winter jacket?

I bought this jacket two years ago and find myself wanting to get another one in case they discontinue or "update" this one. I'm 6' 1" slender, 160 lbs, with long arms and the medium size fits me perfectly while leaving room for layering a sweater. This jacket works in milder weather over a t-shirt, or in severe colds when layered properly. I'm not a fan of heavy and bulky parkas, so this one was exactly what I was looking for. It looks casual enough to wear on a hike, and dressy enough for the office. I also find Fjallraven fabrics age nicely over the years, and this jacket is no exception. It's so nice my wife wishes they made a women's version of this. Now to the features: this jacket has tons of pockets without looking too technical (no billowed external pockets, no contrasting or multi-colored panels, etc). All pockets are zippered which is great to keep things secure. The inner chest pockets are large enough to fit a small bottle or kids winter hat. The external chest pockets have inner mesh pockets to prevent things from bouncing around, so I keep my phone and wallet and keys there. The two mesh pouches at the bottom are perfect for keeping my two toddlers' mittens and hats when they constantly take them on/off... it frees up my hands and I don't need to have a backpack. The two-direction zipper makes it easy to reach those mesh pockets without exposing my chest. The draw cord at the waste works really well to keep warmth in. The hood has two cords to secure and move with my head. Because the filling is synthetic, this jacket is super easy to wash. Not much to say about shortcomings, though I agree with other reviewers that the collar is stiff and pushes up against the chin if the hood is down, but I'm willing to live with that. After two years, it has only softened up slightly. Also, I liked this one so much I bought the non-padded version for warmer days. That one does not have the same number of pockets and no mesh pouches which is a huge bummer, but I liked that one enough to keep it.
