Love the Varmland ruck.

Having served in the military, I've spent time under a rucksack. Since then I've fallen in love with the freedom a rucksack offers and am always looking for the best out there. With the Varmland ruck, I've found it.

Fantastic pack!

I watched a coworker use this bag regularly for more than two years before buying my own; I was foolish to wait so long. This thing is awesome! It’s heavy for its capacity, but the stool feature is beyond awesome.

I love this pack. As far as utility goes, it is not a “one pack for everything”. There is no waist belt, which I thought would bother me, but hasn’t bothered me as much as I thought it would. The seat is phenomenal. I thought it would be gimmicky but I use it a ton. I have even used it multiple times as an extra seat at the kitchen table, and I keep a small folding cutting board in the pack that fits perfectly on the seat. The loops on the sides are very handy for hanging a roll of flagging, or other things needing quick access. I use a small accessory pocket on one side for my small binoculars (Nikon monarchs) and the large accessory pocket for a large hydro flask. A 10’ by 10’ DD tarp also fits well in the large accessory pocket, and a hatchet will slide nicely between the pocket and the pack. The front pocket is only big enough for some smaller items. While sitting on the pack, you can access the main compartment, pulling out a lunch bag or sweater. The pack doesn’t hold a lot, which is why the waist belt isn’t really much of an issue. Not having a waist belt makes carrying a knife and my work radio on my belt easier, anyways. It is a good pack for a day at work in the forest. I have everything I need to glass trees, flag trees, tag trees, and cut into trees/bark to look for cause of death, all strapped to the outside of the pack. Inside the pack is my lunch bag, first aid kit, p cord, extra water bottle, warm layer and rain jacket, plus some smaller items like medication, knife, etc. I use a different pack with a ventilated back for long hikes or working in the heat. The seat is perfect for when the crew circles up to go over daily work plans or otherwise meet up. The access from the front of the pack is great, so much better than top loading packs. Whenever I have to work or walk on the road, I pull out the high-vis (blaze orange) rain cover. The pack also excels as a hunting pack. A set of shooting sticks can be slid between the large accessory pocket and pack and secured using the side loops. Being able to sit anywhere is awesome. When dove hunting, you can go from sitting to standing very quickly. I tried attaching the small pocket low and carrying a rifle or shotgun that way but it only worked for me for shorter barreled guns. That’s ok, though. Pros: great work pack Great small hunting pack/seat Side loops are perfect for attaching flagging or tools Seat is super comfortable and useful Front access is great for keeping organized Front access is accessible while sitting Great, strong fabric that doesn’t easily stain Cons: Price is pretty ridiculous after adding side pockets Cannot use comfortably in hot weather

Awesome Pack

This is brilliant design. Really helps to have a seat when my back seizes up. A pack this small needs no hip belt, I prefer the lack of waistline clutter. If you want a hip belt look at the Singi 28. Highly recommended.

Almost Perfect

I like the redesign with the curved zipper accessing the interior of the pack. I do, however, the leather straps on the model that I own. I have to say I've spent countless hours trying to figure out how to get a waist belt attached to this bag. I spend a great deal of time hunting/trekking up and down mountains with this pack. A full day makes it dreadful on the neck and shoulders. Would love to carry the load on my waist. Any suggestions? Please let me know.......

Needs Modifications

This stool/pack is an awesome approach, however it needs the waist belt/pockets of the Singi 28 and the adjustable torso features from the Singi 48 to be perfect. Hangs too low on my back.

Favorite pack

Not only a great pack for the forest when I do tree work, but proved to be an amazing carry on bag for plane travel. I could sit anywhere in the airport and it fit perfectly into overhead. I can’t say enough about this pack. I would definitely recommend the side pockets to increase volume.

Almost great

I was really excited about this pack, as I had planned on using it on hikes and hunts. It's 1L smaller than the Singi 28L, but has the integrated seat and a frame, which were big selling points. I own a few pairs of Fj°llr°ven trousers, shorts, shirts and a jacket, which I absolutely love, so I had high hopes for this pack. However, within 5 minutes of unpacking it, I tried to cinch the shoulder straps and one of the cinch buckles broke, making this pack useless. To Fj°llr°ven's credit, they will replace the broken part, but it's still the same plastic buckle that is prone to breaking and requires either some good repair skills on my part to affix, or taking into a Fj°llr°ven store and waiting however long it takes them to get to the repair. The overall design of the pack is pretty nice, and I tested the seat feature in my living room and it would be great when out on a damp trail. The other thing I hadn't noticed when I ordered this pack is that it doesn't have a waist belt to help distribute the load, like the Singi 28L pack does. It would be nice to have that as an add-on option. So, two things to make this a great pack - 1) Metal shoulder strap buckles. 2) Option to add a waist belt. I entertained the idea of keeping it and fixing it with the replacement part from Fj°llr°ven, but the warranty claim and shipping has taken over a week, plus they shipped it via FedEx, and it was supposed to be delivered today, but the tracking shows that it just left the origin location today, despite FedEx having physical possession of the item for 2 days. In the end I'm out $6.99 in return shipping, which is a bummer. But it's not as big of a bummer as being 5 miles out on a hike and having the strap break again.

Great for day packer

Very durable and it’s beat for day hike and fishing. Side pockets are sold separately but worth to purchase as it will have more room for great amount of storages.

Small but Sturdy

At first I thought the pack was a little small but I'm 6' 3" and 215 lbs., so maybe it's me. That being said it had no problem holding up as a convenient seat whenever a break was in order! Quality.
