Lappland Hike 15L Backpack

Compact and durable, the Fjallraven Lappland Hike 15L Backpack is the perfect minimalist package for day trips into the field. With 15 liters of space, you can't bring everything plus the kitchen sink, but it will still hold a couple packable layers, lunch, water, and a bit of gear—be it binoculars, a hammock, or your current novel. The small size gives you plenty of mobility, with pliant shoulder straps for easy movement while you rock scramble, and the hip strap is removable when you really want to travel light. Fjallraven made the Lappland with a pressed wool back plate, creating a breathable, moisture-wicking pad that's temperature-regulating, odor-resistant, and is a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based materials.

Great!!

I wanted a smaller pack, but I didn't want to sacrifice quality or ergonomics- and this definitely met my needs. It seems like this was sold out for a very long time, and I had been looking at alternatives, but finding a small pack that still had proper support is a lot harder than it should be (some of my small gear is HEAVY) worth the wait!!

Almost perfect

I've been using it for two years now, I absolutely love it. I carry it for hunting trips, trekking, even school since my 13" laptop fits in it. I still don't get the tiny slots on top of shoulders straps though. Could be improved with cartridge slots on the chest strap, that would be amazing feature.

Very long back - you need to be very tall!

Upon receiving my lovely new Lappkand Hike 15 and having instantly seen the obvious build quality, lovely material, etc.,I wa very disappointed when trying it on to find it ridiculously long in the back. I am 173cm, or 5' 8", and there was no way I could use the hip belt as it was down at my hip joints. With the hip belt at my hip the shoulder straps yolk was at the nape of my neck. Utterly unusable. I went from chuffed to despondent just like that and within a few minutes of receiving it I was bagging it up for a return and refund from the UK shop I had ordered it from.

good choice for a compact day sack….

First off, it is small… secondly, it’s also well-made and full of features. Third, it’s comfy to wear and nicely low profile. The maker’s blurb pitches this bag as the hunter's friend - it’s unlikely to snag on undergrowth, the carry straps are soft & designed to allow the shouldering of gun, etc. etc., but qualities like these are just as helpful to walkers and cyclists, too. There's an old adage that suggests the bigger your knapsack, the more weight you will carry… the hike 15 is the antidote to that. Not only is the volume a modest 15 litres, but it's divided into two main compartments and the internal pockets are decidedly teeny-weeny, although the two external side pockets are more roomy, being perfect for the smaller of the Sigg bottle range, say. However, as the 'pack is also suitable for use with a hydration reservoir, the side pockets may be free to accommodate things other than water bottles. These pockets feature expansion pleats and can be cinched with straps to keep their contents secure, making them ideal for fragile items, like a camera lens or a gps device. The only disadvantage to this procedure is that access to item stored in the two main compartments is slightly reduced, owing to the straps pulling everything tight. In total, there are seven separate compartments, making it ideal for organising lots of smallish possessions, like snack bars, keys, wallets, compact binoculars etc., however bulkier items such as an extra top will occupy much of the volume and not leave much room over - this is not the ideal 'pack for the impromptu big shop! It will best suit someone who travels with a number of compact possessions and likes the motto, A place for everything and everything in its place. The build quality is excellent and it’s comfortable to wear, with soft, wide straps and both a chest strap & hip belt. The chest strap buckle doubles as a rather effective whistle and the hip belt is wide for such a small bag and comes complete with a soft G-1000 pouch, of the sort of size that would be ideal for a wallet, phone or glasses case. If you don’t want to use the belt, it tucks away neatly behind the back panel. The G-1000 material that the bag is made from isn’t waterproof, so there’s colourful rain cover supplied. However, once the cover’s in place, none of the contents of the bag are accessible any more, so the choice of whether to use the cover or not is rather a case of swings and roundabouts… Its carry handle is firm and comfy to use, so combined with its compact dimensions, it’s a discrete carry in pubs or cafes. The single colour option - dark olive - is low profile and wholly appropriate for country use. The choice of packed wool for the back panel, as well as the cotton-rich G-1000 fabric used for the bulk of the exterior panels gives the pack a pleasant traditional look and feel, as well as promising long life and the ability to mend if it’s damaged. Lastly, there’s a lot of straps and loops that could accommodate extra items here and there, say a walking pole, or an extra garment. My over-all conclusion is that the bag is a useful and well thought-out, compact day-sack for someone who is looking for organisation and longevity. Whether it’s worth its considerable price, over less expensive options, rather depends on how durable it turns out to be. And as a postscript, here’s what I have in mine on a typical country walk: multi-tool&head torch, travel towel, glasses, pen&pencil, notebook, wallet&keys, water bottle, snack bar, compact binoculars, map&compass, folded-up shopping bag, extra warm top - oh, and the rain cover and a couple of dry-bags. And there’s still some room left - just!

Great pack

I’ve had this bag for a little over a year purchasing it after months of research. I’m so glad I have invested in this pack. I use it for beach trips and days out with the family where it is loaded well over capacity, using the external straps and pockets you can’t half get a lot of stuff in and on the outside of this pack and it just takes the abuse. The most comfortable pack I’ve ever worn when on long day hikes, orienteering racing or single night camps in the woods. Added to the usability it also looks great and I’ve had quite a few guys comment on it when out and about. Might sound a bit sad but even after a year i still get excited about wearing and using it, I suppose that’s part of the fun for me finding better ways to pack and utilise this pack to maximise my next adventure. The pack fits super snug to the body so rarely catches on branches and brambles when roughing it through the woods and hedgerows. There is little to no movement when walking, running or climbing. Great positioned external straps and pockets. Even comes with a rain cover for when it gets really wet. The fact it can be waxed really appeals, giving it the feel of an old fashioned military pack but with a much better design. The dirtier and more beat up it gets the better it looks. Would be really great if they made some compatible side pockets etc to further expand this pack though with a little effort you can make other Fjallraven side pockets work though not easy to remove when out and about. So pleased Fjallraven are now starting to use more wool in their products and looking forward to this trend continuing with future products.

The best day pack for every adventure

I purchased the Lappland Hike 15 in 2020. Such a well designed thoughtful backpack. So many amazing details, I love the generous side pockets with perfectly placed straps to secure water bottles or fly rod tubs.

Best small backpack yet!

This is the very best small backpack I have ever had. It so well designed, with lots of compartments for organization, and is very rugged. There is room for an iPad and a Fjallraven seat pad plus all you need for a day or two if your luggage goes missing. The ergonomics are great, too, as it fits so well and leaves lots of room for free arm and shoulder movement. The waist belt is great and I really love the way that it tucks completely out of the way when not needed. This packs fits easily under an airplane seat and still leaves room to stretch your feet on either side of it! The rain cover is quick and easy to deploy and allows easy access to the pack while in use. The innovative felt back cushion is comfortable and doesn't seem to get wet even when I am sweating on a hot day. This pack looks great, too!

Very Functional

Very-very Functional Bag. Side pocket is Dope. Site straps could be hidden, etc. I've even managed to attach Singi extension pocket to the back ^_^ The would love it to be 20L and with separated back pocket for laptop & +black/navy colour option. Great backpack

2 year of use

2 years of ruff use. It has held up great. It's a tight 15 liters, but it really great from day trips. I used it to hold my extra camera lens and film. Odd use I have for it it for when longboarding down hill it really doesn't get in the way at all for my movement. It also a great crash pad if u put a hoodie or 2 in it. 5 stars for what it is it is great.also sorta easy to re wax
