Why We Like The Keb Trouser

The Fjallraven Keb Trouser is an award-winning technical pant for climbing or alpine hiking with added length. G-1000 Eco fabric in high-wear areas is durable and abrasion-resistant, and stretch panels allow for a full range of motion when climbing or scrambling up high alpine trails. When you're pushing hard for the summit, zippered leg and thigh openings allow for airflow to help temperature regulation. Two large thigh pockets keep essentials secure, and adjustable leg openings attach to your hiking boots or ski boots and keep any debris out.

Building on the previous review, I also have owned and worn out several pairs of Kebs over the years. I was disappointed with the redesign a couple years ago. The new pants simply feel cheaper. - As the other review mentions, the pants are now slimmer. I didn't notice a difference in waist fit (they still run just a bit small), but the redesigned thighs are tighter, to the extent that they actually begin to restrict movement. - The G1000 was removed from either side of the thigh pockets. In a mountaineering application where the primary abrasion resistance is needed on the knees, it's not a big deal. But in a thorn- and nettle-blocking application in which I wear the pants, losing the protection of the G1000 from my inner thigh is a big loss. - the "double button" waist was removed in favor of a single button For comparison, check out the Fjallraven gaiter trousers. They still carry the old design and construction (as of the last pair I purchased in early 2022) . The articulated knees and stretch zones make it feel as if you're not wearing pants at all. The thigh vents are a lifesaver on hot summer days. Overall, I'm disappointed that the pants are lesser quality than they used to be, especially as the price continues to climb. That being said, they're still the best pants on the market.

Best All-Around Trousers

These are my absolute favorite 3-season trousers. They have stretch everywhere I need, and durable canvas everywhere else. With the recent update, they now have bi-directional vent zippers, which was my only complaint about the older version. They can be waxed up in fall/winter and vented open in spring/summer. I own 3 pairs, and use them for both hiking and climbing. They just can't be beat. For size reference, I am 6ft 4in. 190lb and the EU size 50 in the long inseam are perfect for me. Everyone deserves a pair of Kebs!

A step down from the previous version

I purchased my first pair of Keb trousers in 2016. I am a forestry consultant, and was looking for a pant that would allow me to work unhindered in waist-high stinging nettle and multiflora rose brambles, while not causing me to overheat in 100° summer afternoons in Missouri. The Keb trousers fit the bill. The reinforced thighs and legs would block almost everything I could put them through, and the zipper thigh and calf vents would allow me to keep as cool as possible on even the hottest days. The articulated knees and stretch fabric result in these being some of the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. By the end of that first summer I had purchased two additional pairs of Keb trousers and a pair of Keb Gaiter trousers. While they are very pricey, I see them as essential gear that more than pay for themselves in increased productivity over their lifespan. After a few years, my stock of Kebs were showing their age, and nearly all had worn through in the high-friction areas. I purchased several new pairs, only to find that they had been re-designed. The double-button waist was reduced to a single button, the fabric reinforcement on either side of the thigh pocket had been removed, the legs had been slimmed. They felt altogether more cheaply made, but yet they were more expensive. From a performance standpoint, the removal of the G-1000 on either side of the thigh pockets exposed my legs to thorns and nettle far more frequently. The removal of the second waist button made the fit less all-day comfortable. The slimmer legs were narrow enough that they reduced my range of motion versus standard jeans (I'm 6'3", 225 lbs). I returned the new (current) model Kebs and made calls to outlets around the country and purchased the only two pairs of the old model trousers I could find in my size. The bottom line is, these are great pants. But, for me, the redesign turned them into something that I will no longer be purchasing again.

Love the Keb. Beware new sizing!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've owned, and still do, a number of Keb trekking pants through the years. Always the same size, 50 Long. I received a 50 Long today and they are like hip huggers from the 70's--the new cut is apparently MUCH slimmer through the butt and thighs. Pulled out a couple of my other Kebs just to make sure it wasn't pandemic pounds talking and---nope. They really are almost a "skinny fit". Ordering a 52 Long, stay tuned... Sizing aside, I absolutely love the design of these trousers. Breathable, stretchable, ventilation zips are well thought, and G-1000 in all the right spots.

You a Surveyor? You're going to love these

As someone who works outside everyday going through construction sites as well as thick Alberta bush, these pants are a lifesaver. They're extremely durable, insanely breathable thanks to the vents, and so many pockets you'll forget which pocket you put your stuff in. Bit on the pricey side, but you wont regret this purchase. They're fantastic pants that I highly recommend.
