Kajka 85L Backpack

Fjallraven's Kajka 85 Backpack handles heavy loads with a comfy carry for all your week-long adventures. Its Perfect Fit Adjustment System accommodates hikers of all sizes, with a backpanel that adjusts vertically and horizontally to ensure a custom fit. Unlike most frames, Fjallraven made the Kajka's out of wood for the same support and functionality as metal frames, but in a more environmentally-concsious construction.

The Kajka is a traditional top loader with a removable top lid, and Fjallraven added a front panel access for easy packing and unpacking. Its sleeping bag compartment features Fjallraven's Wet/Dry divider to keep wet clothes separate from dry clothes. Zippered pockets at the lid, sides, and waist belt offer plenty of organization options, and compression straps offer a secure load for a stable carry through the woods.

Love it, overall. Will be a workhorse for larger loads.

I have the 100l version of this pack. It's heavy, but made very, very well and you won't find a much better suspension system. I'll use it mostly for winter trips when more space is required for larger bags and warmer clothes. My only complaint is that the hip belt was incredibly small. I had to tailor an extension for it. It would have been nice at this price point to have a few more inches of belt adjustment available.

Brute of a bag

At almost 8 lbs this bag empty is quite substantial. Heavy duty material, to withstand any environment but definitely adds weights to your adventure. Beside the weight, I found it a comfortable fit, a bit stiff and actually packing your gear into it takes a little getting used to. It’s compartments and design didn’t seem to resemble any backpack I have previously used. The features work great but for lack of better description, it takes some “learning” that wouldn’t come with a backpack that was more intuitive. Bulletproof bag, and when it’s all packed and strapped up, it’s a great looking, tight package. But I feel access to the pockets could be much easier with some tweets.

Flawed workhorse

This backpack is a flawed workhorse. Tough and resilient it has good compartments. However, a large rucksack like this really needs to be designed to be more comfortable when carrying heavier loads and that comes down to simple things like the shoulder straps - they are just not comfortable with heavier loads. The straps cut into the sides of my upper torso and under my arms. I could not get it to adjust properly. I also found the backyard facing zips on the side pockets very odd and irritating. When the main compartment opens one up way, why have the zips facing down when it is in the same position? It means that all your belongings fall out onto the ground. Would I recommend this over other makes? Doubtful. The Osprey backpacks I have are so much more adjustable and comfortable.

I?ve used this for many adventures. It serves amazingly well as a large bag to shuttle gear up the glacier. The g1000 material is very robust and can take quite a bit of abuse. The mesh/closed/open bottom compartment is really nice and provides flexibility. Plenty of tie off points and a zippered main compartment makes it easy to access anywhere in the pack. It?s heavier than other packs of similar size but this one will last my lifetime.
