Greenland Jeans (long) Review

The Greenland Jeans (48EU/US32”, long/34” inseam) are my 1st pair of Fjallraven clothing. I bought the Greenland Jeans, in Buckwheat Brown, because of their versatility. Quite literally they are the most versatile jeans/pants that I own. You can wear them on casual Fridays at the office, going out on the weekends, for hiking, chopping wood, camping, or even rock climbing. They are the most comfortable pair of jeans that I own, period. I can tell Fjallraven spent a good amount of time designing the proper fit for these jeans. To help customers, my dimensions are as follows 6’1.5” tall, 33 inch waist, and 33.5” inseam. Just like a pair of jeans they are comfortably fitted in the upper leg (10” inch width). The knee (9” inch width). The lower leg has a slight taper, but nothing dramatic or overdone, just a slight taper (I measure 8” inch width at the leg opening). The seat of the jeans (crotch) is gusseted which makes the jeans unrestrictive when taking longer strides hiking. The Greenland Jeans have an articulated knee which allows one to bend down and NOT have the jeans clinch or restrict when squatting. I further attest that these are the ONLY pair of jeans that I have ever owned that have a waist that does not bulge when bending down or leaning over. Meaning a tucked in shirt will stay tucked in these jeans – the rise of the jeans is spot on! The construction and materials are unbelievably robust. The stitching is tight and reinforced. Meaning these jeans, with proper care, will last a lifetime. I am not kidding about that either – that’s how well made these jeans are. The Greenland Jeans are made of the original G-1000 material (65% polyester, 35% Cotton). For customers, who might be shy of wearing “polyester looking” jeans you need not worry about that. To the touch and to the eye these jeans look like they are made of 100% cotton. The original G-1000 material these jeans are made of is light. This allows ample breathing on warmer days outside. They do not feel stuffy like 100% cotton jeans do. On cooler days these jeans hold up to wind and I feel no draft. One other wonderful quality about these jeans is that they are SUPER QUICK DRYING!!! No joke, I took these jeans out of the washer and hung dried them outside. 10 minutes later the legs were dry and the seat and pocket areas were about 85% dry – dry enough that if I were in a time crunch I would wear them and not feel wet. There was a light wind that day. On the topic of washing these jeans I would recommend hang drying these jeans just as Fjallraven recommends. Why? Because all clothing will last longer and maintain their original durability by hang drying. With these jeans, as I mentioned above, take only 10 minutes outside to dry or 15-20 minutes inside based on my experience. Plus, it is better on the environment to dry these via hang drying. If any customer viewing these jeans and reading this review it is my hope that this review will help aid your decision. You won’t regret the purchase and any justification can be explained by the fact that these jeans are timeless looking and will last a lifetime with proper care!

Perfect fit - Please make Black

Literally the best pant I've ever own, I particularly love the fit of these. almost a straight leg but with the perfect taper. I have been asking on social media and written emails to get these produced in Black, because that would make these the ultimate daily driver.

Favourite pants

Got these like a month ago or so and wear them more than any other pants I own. Light, comfortable, sturdy, good with wind and they’ve got a handy thigh pocket. The only thing I didn’t like about them is the fifth pocket inside the right hand pocket. It had a large wide mouth on the inside, and being right handed I always put my phone in my right pocket, it was a chore putting my phone away. So I took the pocket out. Now I have no complaints!

100% Recommend

Super comfortable and I've worn these on some quite cold days, but also great for casual city-life style. Agree with the mentioned note about them looking a bit 'formal enough' that they seem cool and not so casual to bring to the office as well.

Good jeans but super weird fit

I have a couple different pants from them that fit me. These do not. I'm a 35 waist and the 36 fits good. These however were completely different. The 36 was too wide in the waist and seat while the legs were so skinny I could barely get them on. No idea why these are so different. Too bad since the material was nice and pockets in a good spot. Btw the return was super easy although there's a 6 dollar return fee I wasn't expecting.

worn this style for years

These are my favorite pants and I would love to get more colors. These are comfortable but dressy enough for the office. I love how lightweight they are and how the easily fit under my motorcycle pants. Please make more color options.

These are not jeans

Kinda surprised how light and thin these are. They are rugged, but the fabric’s tight weave doesn’t break in like jeans do. They also get dirty easier but they do wash out easier. Idk. I should have read more about them before I bought them. I was just looking for some jeans and these looked nice.

Loved these at first, now incredibly disappointed.

Loved these pants initially. Got the size 46 and they fit me perfectly. After wearing them sporadically over the course of a few weeks, the waistband stretched out so much - seemingly permanently - that I can basically fit my entire arm into the waistband along with my own waist. It's like the waist stretched out by 2 - 2.5 inches. I've only washed according to instructions, and the rest of the garment fits the same as when I received it. I'm now considering putting them in the dryer briefly to try to force shrink them back to the initial waist size. Really disappointing because they were so expensive and fit so well at first. I love Fjallraven products and have been a long time customer, but this purchase really backfired on me.

Long review but I hope somebody can appreciate the details. Firstly, I’ve known of this brand for many years and always wanted to own something from them because all of the marketing made them look like they were truly built for the outdoors. Regretfully this was my first purchase and not only do I not see myself buying these specific pants again, but now I’m worried about their other offerings as well. I believe these pants are better suited for drinking IPAs at your local brewery in a flannel (mustache optional but encouraged) and putting off the impression that you are super into the outdoors versus actually being great outdoor pants. First, as for fit, i found them to be true to size unlike other review. I’m 5’9ish 170ish lbs (semi athletic) and wear a 32 inseam/medium in virtually everything. I actually ordered a 34 based on other review and ended up exchanging them for 32 because they were too big in the waist. Length is a bit long (its in the name though) but for hiking I actually dont mind (IPA pants though and these need a good roll or hem). I do like the fit of these pants. I appreciate a more tailored fit, however, there is absolutely zero stretch to these pants. And although they do have a gusset any amount of high stepping does create quite a bit of tension on certain seams through the thigh and crotch region of these pants. It’s not so bad that it’s uncomfortable but it’s certainly the type of tension that overtime I would be worried about tearing seams. Speaking of seams, it is not that there’s anything wrong with the stitching but more that it is completely ordinary. I expected more spending $140 and I guess I also just thought that this company wouldn’t be manufactured in the same country that most house sporting good store brands are, or costco for that matter (sorry Costco, you know I still love you). And that is not to knock overseas manufacturing but to highlight the lack of value these pants offer. I could better justify buying these pants if they were $80 (I bought them using a $50 gift card) but paying $140 only to have to replace them in two or three years like I do most other branded (and cheaper) pants doesn’t make sense. The material of these pants is a stand out feature as I do imagine it would hold up well and feels great. As for the thigh pocket? Well it looks great. Like seriously great. Its the main reason i bought them (almost didnt want to admit that). But its functional value on the trail (vs your casual intown hang out) is much less so. I don’t hike with a map very often these days, and if i do its not the kind of thing I need immediate convenient access to. If you do hike with a map a lot I suppose this would be a good pocket for you. But anything thicker or less plyable than a map, say like your phone, snacks, or anything of real use, will quickly become a bother on the trail. Again due to the lack of stretch and tailored fit it just starts to bother my quad (that IPA punch card however would fit nicely) The problem is I do not buy $140 hiking pants to go out on the town with (more of a jeans kind of guy) and I think that is the niche these pants fill vs a true rough and functional outdoor pant. I really wanted to like these pants. And this brand. But now I’m hesitant. Would buying the $200 or $300 pants they offer give me the true outdoor pants my heart yearned for and that 10 years from now i am still wearing on my week long backpacking trips into the wilderness and on the many weekend missions? I am doubtful. But seriously, the look of this thigh pocket almost makes it worth it. Almost. See you downtown I guess.

Excellent quality and fit

I don't leave reviews but in this case I registered so I could leave one. These trousers are that good. I think of these as the urban edition of the Vidda Pro. I've got a pair of Vidda Pro's and I've been extremely impressed with how durable the Vidda's are and how great they are for all the outdoor stuff I do. So I thought I'd try the Greenland Jeans to replace the denim jeans I have for when I'm in the office or outdoors. The GJ's are brilliant! They look great and fit great. For reference I'm 6ft 5", weigh 273lbs, 36" waist and work (weights, running) out on a regular basis - So I'm a big guy! My sizing for these was the same as for the VP's - 37" waist. The tips to buy a size up certainly applied to me for these and the VP's. If I was to go any higher in size the waist will be too loose. The trousers hug the booty and taper towards the bottom of the leg if I had bought a larger size they would be too loose around the booty and the crotch and that's not a good look! Length is perfect and overall the fit is perfect for me. The trousers are lightweight and seem to have all the robustness of the VP's but in a lighter version (with less pockets). I will be buying more of these.
