At less than $600 for the Arktis parka, this parka is a bargain-----in any color. I hate taupe, but I love this parka with all my freakin' heart because it is so dang' warm. I am saving up to buy another Arktis parka in about two weeks. This parka is really worth full asking price. (Just sayin'.) My only issue with this parka is the left-handed zipper. I am right-handed my whole life. Left-handed zippers must be the norm in Sweeden. The YKK-Double zippers are built tough, but hard for a right-handed man to zip-up the parka.
This parka is 5.74 pounds !! I asked Backcountry. This parka is designed for Ice Fisherman, and for men racing dogs on dog sled teams. The idea of this parka is to keep a man warm when he is not moving around to keep/stay warm-----no matter how much he stays immobile. The people who oppose this parka say that it is too warm for mild winters. I like snow. This parka is for the snow.
5 stars. Everyday of the week for the Fjallraven Arktis parka---5 stars !!
Personal experiences with the Arktis Parka:
If you wear this parka with a pair of pants and a long-sleeve shirt or sweater----with the hood up or hood down-----you will be warm. No doubt. No matter what. Period. If you own base layers, you will be very, very, very warm in the snow and freezing wind.
I wear insulated overalls/bibs, instead of plain pants. Even insulated pants just don't cut it for me. Nothing can match the warmth of insulated, heavyweight overalls during winter----for my lower-body. But, for my upper-body, I needed a hood to go with my insulated, overalls.. My my ears, cheeks, nose, neck, and arms were all exposed. So, I put on a thick sweater. My arms got warm again. But, my whole head was still exposed on very cold days. I needed a parka to wear over- top of my insulated, heavyweight overalls. The combination of overalls(lower body) and parka(upper-body)and (head) is super warm.
Fjallraven hoods are among the biggest hoods on the outdoor market. Fjallraven hoods are so large that I can pull the hood way over my head and limit my vision to nothing--- if the wind was making me that cold. There is no way that cold air could get through a Fjallraven parka hood. Some say that the hood is too big. Not me. From looking at the pictures of this parka, I knew this parka meant BUSINESS !!
I am 5'7. I am 198 pounds; muscular-build. I bought size Extra-Large in this parka. I like my clothing loose fitting. Yes, a medium from Fjallraven would fit me. But, I could not layer a size medium the way I want to. Plus, if the garment shrinks from washing it, it could go down to a size small or worse. So, I am very, very happy with the Extra-Large size. When I stretch out my arms from left-to-right, you can still see the tips of my fingers. But, if I made a fist, I could keep my fingers warm under the cuff. If I lost my gloves, the parka is big enough that I can make a fist and my hands fit inside the parka. Also, since I wear my parka over-top of my overalls, I needed a parka that was big enough to stretch around the overalls . The fit is great. In a winter storm, I have enough room to wear the overalls and parka together-----I could not wear both parka and overalls if I bought a medium or large size.
