The snake that doesn't bite.
Like all of Fizik's latest Kurves, the 2015 versions, including the Fizik Kurve Snake Aluminum Mobius Rails Saddle, get new, lighter rails in more neutral colors, and Kevlar reinforcement of the Re:Flex shell. The Snake version of the Kurve is aimed at the most flexible riders, with ample mid-section support to enable more comfortable riding in a lower or more aggressive position. Less flexible riders can opt for the Chameleon or Bull saddles, but for the Gumbys and the racers out there, the Kurve Snake is what you want.
Let's talk about what sets the Fizik Kurve saddles apart from the rest. In standard saddles, comfort comes from some form of foam padding; but foam takes a little while break in and can degrade over time. Instead of padding, Kurve saddles rely on the base of the saddle for comfort. The Kurve's composite Re:Flex shell behaves like a sensory receptor, mirroring your movements in the saddle as you ride, and for 2015, as mentioned, the shell gains Kevlar reinforcement to improve durability. Key contact points in the shell — such as those under your sit bones and perineum — are constructed using fewer composite layers, thus enabling them to respond to pressure from your body. The new design means Kurve saddles have a more rounded top than their traditional counterparts — that's the Re:Flex shell waiting to do its job. Once you hop on the bike, the saddle flexes, conforming to the shape that fits you best. Best of all, since Kurve saddles don't rely on padding for support and comfort, no break-in time is required — just install it and ride.
The Kurve saddles also feature the company's new Tuner insert, an interchangeable nosepiece that allows you to customize the flex of the saddle. Need a bit more forgiveness while piling on your early season base miles? Simply install the more flexible nosepiece for a softer, gentler ride. Want to muster every last watt of power from your legs during this weekend's time trial or triathlon? Switch to the more rigid nosepiece for more stiffness and less flex.
Like many of Fizik's top saddles, the Kurve saddles also feature TwinFlex technology (the shell is comprised of interwoven fibers that flex like a hammock), and WingFlex technology (small slits in the side of the saddle flex when pedaling, allowing free thigh movement with each downward pedal stroke). The Mobius aluminum rails on this model extend from a singular alloy structure that supports the entire saddle, keeping it stiff where necessary while also keeping weight to a minimum.
