When the approach is long and rocky, be it giant granite slabs or loose fields of shale, you need a shoe with traction that's up to the task. The Five Ten Women's Guide Tennie Shoes use high-friction soles and soft leather to help you keep your footing and stay comfortable during your approach. EVA in the midsole adds support and fights off fatigue through the long hike in, while the water-resistant nubuck leather upper sheds moisture from passing rainstorms.

Don?t waste your money
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I love Five Ten. They have always made my favorite climbing and approach shoes. My approach shoes could no longer be glued back together when the sole separated from the shoe for the 3rd time and I bought the new version of the guide tennies. Now that Adidas has taken over the shoes are terrible in quality and the rubber is extremely sub par. A traverse I can do with my eyes closed that?s several hundred feet long and over water, just to get into the climbing spot became my nemesis with these shoes. My old five tens, before adidas bought them, worked great, super sticky rubber. The new five tens I wore for the first time( and only time) to do that traverse and into the water I went on the tricky part. The rubber was actually SLIPPERY and NOT sticky. What am I supposed to do with shoes that have very poor quality, that I wore once and cannot return? I?m SO frustrated that I wasted money I didn?t really have and now I still need new approach shoes.

Old models climbed better
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- US8 women
- Height:
- 5' 5"
- Weight:
- 128
Old-old models climbed a lot better (narrower tow box and a little bit pointier). Last 4-5 years models got wide and rounded tip, and this is no different. I still climb to about 5.10- in newer models unless very tiny edges, but I wished they would return to a design more suited for climbing. I got the women's version as I have narrow foot and to get more precision.

Great for the outdoors
If it had a bit of waterproof material on it i would be great.

Really comfy and great looking shoe
Not had much of a chance to use these yet, but they are really comfy (although a snug fit) I expect they be really good over rock and dry ground but not so grippy on wet grass or mud as the sole is quite stiff.
