Freerider Cycling Shoe

Known for its rock climbing shoes, Five Ten made the Freerider Shoes with the same grippy tech to create a shoe that is ideal for platform pedals. Stealth Rubber is not only grippy, it is also durable, designed to withstand the demands of long hours adhering to granite rock. This means that it won’t blink at the prodding of your metal pedal spikes, and it will outlast even the most expensive gum rubber soled shoes. The uppers are constructed of brushed nubuck leather and breathable mesh to keep your feet cool and comfortable.

  • Mountain biking shoes designed with tough grip and versatile comfort
  • Nubuck leather uppers with reinforced toe box last through seasons
  • Stealth Rubber soles grip pedal spikes and slick surfaces alike

Well Built Shoes

Familiarity:

I purchased size 9.5 because majority of the reviews suggest it fits true to size. I ordered outside of the US. The right shoe fits well but the left shoe was a slightly uncomfortable just at the tip of my toe. I had to get the left shoe stretched a bit for that comfortable feeling. This is my first pair of flat pedal shoes that I’ve been using for just over a month now for trail riding and I absolutely love them! Very grippy and comfortable to walk in. I highly recommend. The shoe lace is a bit long but definitely not a deal breaker.

Great Shoes for Flats

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Can't say I've tried too many other flat pedal shoes, but I really like these. They are very grippy, and I haven't had any problems with sliding off the pedal. The toe area is nicely padded, which came in handy on a few pedal strikes. I find it helpful to tuck the laces underneath themselves when riding to avoid getting caught in the chainring.

always been good

I've bought several pair of five tens for family members using flats and always been great. The freerider is probably our favorite, they hold up well, and grip well, would recommend.

My Shimano GR7 were pretty much decent at best. The grip was ok but not stuck to the platform how my old FiveTen Impact were. I wanted something with the grip of the Impact but the fit and feel of the GR7. Enter the skate shoe with climbing rubber that is the Freerider. Couldn't be happier. Grip amazingly well and fit as they should. Only complaint is the lack of a lace securing system.

Received shoes I did not order

I ordered a pair of Five Ten Freerider Cycling Shoes. Was shipped a pair of Nike trail shoes and they weren't even the right size. There was no paper work what so ever in the box. Was supposed to be shipped UPS 2nd day air I ordered it on January 30th arrived February 5th. Was very disappointed.

I’m very happy with the shoes. They grip Shimano Saint flat pedals great. I had to send my first pair back and go up a 1/2 size.

Good Flat Shoe

Replace old vans that I was using as my bike shoe with these. They are much sturdier and stuffed which I can notice when pedaling hard. Worth it if you bike a decent amount.

I purchased these based on the reviews. The reviews made the shoes sound great. I've worn them for several workouts and to be blunt, they hurt my feet. After about 6 or 7 miles the balls of my feet and my toes start tingling. By the time I've finished 14 miles the balls of my feet are almost numb. The reviews made them sound so good I though maybe they just needed to be broken in. Some of the reviews talk about how comfy they are. Mine feel like I'm walking on a board. There doesn't seem to be any cushion in them at all. I was hoping they would have some cushion so I could wear them even when I wasn't biking like mentioned in some of the reviews. Maybe I need a half size larger but they seem to fit correctly. Whatever the cause I'll try and return mine, if for no other reason than they don't seem to have any cushion in them at all.

Amazing Shoes for MTB

Familiarity:

Super sticky on a flat/platform pedal. It is startling how grippy they are. Using with Crank Brothers Stamp 2 and proving to be the perfect setup for me.

These guys know how to make a mtb shoe!

Very impressed with the quality construction, reinforced seams, extremely sticky sole and overall comfort and support. Did I leave anything out? These shoes are just awesome! They're a little overbuilt for everyday wear (feels like a skate shoe on steroids) but I like them so much I usually end up wearing them for a lot more than just riding.

Nice Shoe

Great shoe to wear all over even if you are not on the bike. if used everyday the sole will wear out quick but other than than its a wonderful shoe. oh yeah it grips the pedals awesome.

Use this with Deity Bladerunners and the grip is amazing!!! The sole is very stiff and even when only one section of the shoe is touching another section of the pedal, it feels as if you were on solid ground. Plus the sole is very grippy without dragging, really helped today when having to climb some boulders. Also ordered some for my friend, they’re so comfortable he wears them to work!!!

Super comfy

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Love these shoes! They are super comfortable and super durable. I use these shoes for both enduro/singletrack riding and also downhill and they are perfect for both, they have just the right amount of padding that downhill I feel protected and when peddling singletrack there not hot at all. Size wise they fit me a bit big but I’m always in between a 8.5 and 9.0 ( I ordered a 9) I probably will get a 8.5 when I get my next pair! Overall great shoe highly recommend them !

Great shoe

Super sticky. Holds the pedals great and secure. Runs a little large. Normally wear a 10/10.5 and the size 10 I got were a little big but nothing to return them over.

Why Clip In?

Pair these with a Deity pedal and you're not going anywhere. If you're going to do flat pedals, do it right with the right shoe. Many people rush to clip but nothing teaches you better bike handling and proper technique like a killer flat pedal interface. I wear these shoes every day, even on days when I leave the bike at home. They are comfortable, last about 2 years of everyday use, and I'm always ready to hit a trail or the dirt jump park after work. I'm on my 4th pair and I've found they run true to size with the outsole deteriorating well before the rest of the shoe. When my pedals start to feel a little bit uncomfortable, I usually get a new pair despite the uppers looking like new.

Do these shoes work well for everyday use other than biking?

Yes I use them for both training on pavement and dirt trails. They are better quality tan any shoe I have purchased for the money.

>Rating:

will these work with platform pedals that don't have pins in them?

Hi AM, They will work fine with pedals without pins. You will get more grip with the shoe and pedal if the pedals aren't a smooth surface though. Feel free to give us a call at 888-276-7130 if you have further questions!

Hi Frank, Yes, a US men's 5.5 will be equal to a Euro 37.5.

Are these stiffer than Spitfires? I love Spitfires but they are too soft for efficient pedaling. I've tried the Freerider VXi - nice stiffness - but I don't like the flat sole design.

Hi, I asked ChainReatcionCycles about sizes and they gave me this chart http://www.shoesizechart.us/B/Five-Ten , then i went to your website and found size chart too, but I noticed that it is not the same sizes. Which chart is right? My foot length is 26.3 cm. which size will fit for me?

do they fit true to size? My Five Ten Minaars are 10.5 but all other shoes are 11.

Besides being a little roomy in the toes they are otherwise true to size.

Stupid question, but how do you lace these...

Stupid question, but how do you lace these shoes? I haven't been able to ride clipless since my knee surgery and have been just getting by in a pair of Salomon quick pull lacing sytem running shoes (which tucks safely out of the way). How do people lace these up so they don't get caught on anything - I'm assuming you just don't tie them in a bow?

Hey there Lorp, there are no dumb questions : ) Myself and my buddies don't usually worry about the laces when DH riding. I've never caught mine on anything anyway... If you were worried, you could definitely tuck them out of the way underneath the beefy tongue of this shoe. This shoe also has removable insoles, which we didn't mention above. This is pretty sweet if you ever need to battle the hot summer foot funk! Happy trails!

I laced mine with "yankz" the elastic laces sold here on bc. Makes a perfect pair...
