    Lighter than AEir.

Approaches can be hot, tiring, and scrappy, but Five Ten's AEscent Men's Approach Shoe makes things go just a little more smoothly. Light, plush, and versatile, the AEscent combines a super-sticky Stealth MI6 rubber sole with a cushy EVA midsole and plenty of arch support to let you scramble, hike, and smear your way up all the 5.0 pitches on the way to the real climbing (it also works like a charm for slacklining and base-jump takeoffs). As a bonus, the suede and synthetic upper keeps your feet cool and comfortable from the desert to the mountains, so you can deal with whatever challenges the day throws your way.

    Good so far

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: 9.5
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I've only had this shoe for a short time so I can't speak to durability but have logged enough hours in them to form an opinion about their function.
I bought them primarily for cycling (mtb, dirt/gravel) because I was tired of slipping on my pedals and saw enough mention of Five Tens and sticky rubber that I researched it and decided on the Aescent. I'm not smart enough to ride clipless so I have no basis of comparison there, but I have put in a lot of miles with straps so I have some idea of what being attached to a platform pedal feels like.
Color me impressed. The rubber works and I'm a convert; no slipping, even on some pretty rough stuff. I'm 44 and ride SS (not smart enough for gears either) so I needed a shoe that was good on the ground as well, since a lot of rides involve me pushing or carrying the bike and they haven't disappointed there either.
The only kind of negative, and I knew it when I purchased them, is that, compared to the trail runners I'm used to, they are noticeably heavier, bulkier and don't breathe as well. I'm thinking it's something I'll get used to and will probably welcome the protection when things get rough.
Finally, I wear a 9.5 in most shoes and that's what I ordered. I have a wide foot and these are a little tight in the toebox. I'm not sure if I should have sized up to a 10 or that's just the way these are. I'm going to find a pretty thin insole and see how it goes.

    Great all around adventure travel

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I got this shoe to act as my sole footwear for a mountain biking trip to New Zealand. The trip was two weeks long. I always wear an 8 and these were true to size. Comfortable right out of the box. I believe these use the same rubber as some of five ten's dedicated mountain biking shoes. I'm sure I gave up some performance on the steeper, higher speed descents, but they kept my feet on the pedals as desired. Really good light hikers as well. I couldn't find a flaw in their performance. Time will tell how they hold up but so far so good.

    The best on rock terrain

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Very nice shoes, the sole has an incredible grip on rock. I use for hikes and approaches and the Aescent is very comfortable too!

    Good Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I got this shoe for an approach shoe and an everyday shoe.
It's comfortable and the rubber on it is great. It's everything you'll want in a low profile approach shoe.
The everyday use of the shoe I'm not sold on, although not really advertised as one. The sole of the shoe is slightly rounded at the ball of the foot. This makes scrambling up something easy, whereas walking from class to class feel kinda like you're dancing. It's a great shoe and I recommend it to anyone looking for a great approach shoe.

    Great all around shoe

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10.5
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 220lbs

Have had these shoes for over a month and really enjoy them. I use them mainly as a shoe for when I ride my commuter bike with my large flat pedals. But I have used them almost everyday just to walk around in since they're so comfortable.

The grip on these is excellent with the new stealth rubber.

    Light, wide, and low drop

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

It strikes me as a light weight NB 574 with super FIVE TEN rubber outer sole.

The low drop takes me a while to get use to. I'd have to lean more toward forefoot while walking.

    Most versatile shoe ever

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Bought these initially to use as an approach shoe and quickly realized they have many great uses. They are incredible for mountain biking, I've used them at the bike park and taken them for 35 mile cross country rides in the backcountry. I've also climbed up to 5.7 in these and feel like I could probably push that further if I really wanted to. I've been climbing in LaSportivas for a long time but after my experience with this shoe I am about to fully convert to 5.10. Highly recommended.

    Great Shoe-Even for Mountain Biking

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had this shoe for over a year now (the older yellow and grey model) and I love them! I use it for mountain biking because the Freeriders didn't fit my narrower feet. They are quite sticky although I think the freeriders may have been a little bit more sticky. I have slipped a pedal maybe once with these? Great shoes if you want to use with some good flat pedals. I have used them as an approach shoe as well to get up to the routes and they do a lot better than a runner shoe because the sole is nice and stiff, but the foam makes it so they don't feel like boots. I would highly recommend these shoes!

    Elevated Aescents

My first time wearing the 5.10 Aescent was also my first solo skydive, they fit great right from the start!

The Aescent give excellent padding and support, amazing traction on slick surfaces(thanks STEALTH), and a great lightweight feel while blazing on trails!

    Elevated Aescents

    Love this shoe!!

The 5.10 aescent has been a perfect 'do everything' shoe for me. Awesome hiker, decent mt bike platform shoe, and comfy for wearing to work all day. The construction is tough-its held up to a lot of abrasion, stiff enough for good support on rocky terrain but flexy enough to compete with the comfort of my running shoes.

      Love this shoe!!
      Unanswered Question

Hi. Does anyone know how the sizing for the Aescent compares to the Camp Four?? I take 11 US in the Camp Four, trying to figure out which size in the Aescent?? Trying them on is not an option but I neeeeeeed these :-) Cheers Mr PP
