- Q & A
Stylish and rugged, size down
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs large
First off, this coat runs very large. I'm a L or XL in everything I own and I'm a Medium in this coat at 5'10, 210. It's so hard to decipher the differences between the various Filson coats (packer, cruiser, field, shooting) so I'll help you out with some of my learnings. This is one of the few tin coats that does NOT have the moleskin collar, which I like, the collar is tin. Also this coat does NOT have the zip in system, which I also like as I had no plans to zip anything into it so I didn't want the extra bulk or abrasiveness of the zipper system. This coat does NOT come with a hood, despite the photos showing a hood. My coat came VERY oily, it was super concerning at first but in two weeks it was all soaked in or evaporated. The pockets in this coat are perfect including the one internal cell phone pocket on the left and even the large "map" pocket on the lower rear. If you require lots of breathability, Filson Tin cloth is NOT for you. I vent mine by frequently unbuttoning to let some air in. Also, if you're someone who needs their shells to zip/flip up high to cover your chin or cheeks in a driving wind or rain, this is NOT the coat for that, unless you get the optional hood I guess. It looks super cool and I am satisfied with my investment so far. I do think I'll buy the hood soon so the coat and the hood can age together.

This jacket is great, it is very durable and looks great. Keeps all the elements away. Great outer shell for cold snowy days, or a good jacket to keep dry in a thunderstorm. I have worn this jacket on long motorcycle rides, weekend hunting trips, and all around town and it has never failed me. The thick oiled canvas provides great protection, and it gets more stylish every time I wear it. I wanted this jacket for a long time, but never bought it because the price. I have no regrets, this jacket could last a lifetime. Don't hesitate to buy this jacket, it is well worth the money, considering the durability, craftsmanship, and history of this brand. Love this jacket and I look forward to owning this, as well as other Filson products for a long time.
