Tempo R5 Overcurve Cycling Shoe

We do our best efforts to remain unbiased when it comes to products we carry, however, the new Tempo R5 Overcurve Shoe from Fi'zi:k has to be the best-looking shoe we've ever seen under $150. Whether you're just getting into road cycling, or you're needing to upgrade your kicks that's been getting you by since the Clinton era, you can stop your search here. Borrowing styling and technical queues from Fi'zi:k's higher-end shoes, you can count on the Overcurve to get your feet through the longest training rides in comfort and looking forward to the next ride.

Unique in the Overcurve's construction, especially given its price point, is its attention to detail regarding its fit. Fi'zi:k builds it using a staggered collar that wraps around the ankle, contouring to the natural asymmetry of the ankle’s two bony protrusions, the lateral and medial malleoli. It results in a slightly offset opening that’s more comfortable and holds the foot more securely in place as the shoe is better able to conform to the foot’s natural anatomy.

The upper consists of Microtex, a material that we're quite familiar with as Fi'zi:k uses it elsewhere for its saddle coverings and its bar tape. It makes sense here too, as it's extremely supple for a comfortable and consistent fit, yet strong and durable for several seasons of everyday riding. Quickly and securely enveloping that upper across your feet is a micro-adjustable BOA IP1 dial up top and hook-and-loop closure at the forefoot.

Down below, its R5 nylon composite outsole offers just enough flex to eliminate numb feet and hot spots on long rides but does so without compromising pedaling efficiency. It comes ready for 3-bolt cleats which should accommodate most road pedal systems on the market.

  • A solid road cycling shoe that doesn't break the bank
  • BOA dial and hook-and-loop strap secures the fit on the go
  • Carbon reinforced nylon sole is efficient and comfortable
  • Durable Micotex upper is supple and durable
  • Compatible with 3-hole road cleats
  • Staggered foot opening improves the fit
  • Fizik offers a value-packed road cycling shoe for with a budget

Good shoe for the price

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Bought these shoes primarily to use on the indoor trainer. Have a pair of R1s and R3s I use out on the road, so trying to keep things in perspective here. These shoes definitely lack the stiffness and breathability of the higher end models (they get pretty hot after a while - sweat a ton in these things). That said, they get the job done and fit very well. It's all relative, and for the price this is a good shoe.

Great, sleek shoe

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit:
True to size

I haven't used these on the road yet (waiting for conditions to be less dirty), but these shoves fit like a glove! I bought the size 36 and am typically a US women's size 5-5.5. These are sleek and look fast! My only downside is that they're a little difficult to get on.
