    Channel comfort.

As part of Fi'zi:k's Versus line, the Antares VSX K:ium Saddle features a 20mm channel along its center to relieve pressure on sensitive tissues. Soft, low-density cushioning surrounds the relief zone to further enhance comfort and eliminate the sharp ridge effect that many early adopters of pressure-relief channels were saddled with. Despite these comfort-enhancing additions, the Antares VSX still follows the same length and width dimensions as its race-ready Antares cousins, and the K:ium rails keep the saddle's weight low while absorbing road noise for a smoother, less fatiguing ride.

The carbon-reinforced nylon shell is designed to strategically flex just enough to provide give without feeling like a trampoline underneath you. The engineered flex teams with the saddle's race-inspired shape so that it won't impede your leg movements while pedaling. Fi'zi:k finishes the saddle with a durable Microtex cover, which loyally serves to protect the generous padding from exposure to the elements.

The Antares VSX falls into the chameleon category within Fi'zi:k 's Spine Concept guidelines, which is the brand's approach to finding the right saddle by identifying differences in spine flexibility among cyclists. The chameleon references cyclists with a moderate amount of spine flexibility who tend to be most comfortable on a wider, flatter platform.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I ride a 2012 BMC Team Machine, which is very stiff and extremely efficient with power transfer. I used the stock saddle, which was a Fizik Antares, for several years, which was uncomfortable after long rides. Prior to this saddle, I used others including the Specialized Phenom and Prologo on a Cannondale Super Six, and both were worse for me, so I stuck with the Fizik. To aid with the uncomfortable stiffness, I upgraded the wheels to Enve 3.4 SES on 25 mm Conti's, and have gone through numerous bibs with different padding, which improved the comfort marginally. Ultimately, I gave the Fizik Antares VSX a shot, and so far it has been the best saddle I've ridden to date. the longest ride so far was 4 hours roundtrip, climbing over 5000 ft. I think the padding and channel are what make the difference for me. That said, I know others who have had good experience with the saddles I mentioned previously, and it's really a matter of finding the right fit for your anatomy. I'm 5'8" and 175lbs.
