For guys who like to get hot and dirty.

Not that kind of hot and dirty ... The Ex Officio Men's Sol Cool Crew is for the guys who work up a sweat at the mere idea of backpacking, hiking, climbing, cycling, mountain biking, running, or any other hot-weather activity. Ex Officio made this long-sleeve crew out of polyester and spandex for a comfortable amount of stretch, and then added Ice-Fil technology (containing xylitol derived from birch trees) to wick moisture and keep you at a solid five degrees cooler than the air around you. Ice-Fil technology also gives this shirt antimicrobial properties, meaning it won't stink as badly as you do after a difficult hike under the sun. Its natural fit includes raglan sleeves and an underarm gusset to give you the mobility you need to climb comfortably. Flatlock seams add comfort when you're backpacking with a heavy load on your shoulders.

    Ideal Hot-Sun Shirt

    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XL and L

These are ideal hot-sun shirts. I got one and then quickly bought another because I liked it so much. I would say that they are cut to run a little loose and flowy. That circulates the air pretty well and keeps things from getting sticky. The material is thin and stretchy, drys quickly, and doesn't hold much water. The bright colors reflect the sun well, and it looks stylish as a bonus. I'd say they are ideal for summer hikes or rides, boating, and fishing where you want to cover up and stay cool. I got one in XL which is very loose, and later a L also that fits a little more snug and athletic. Works well in South Florida's tropical environment. Really does make you feel cooler.

So Cool Crew Long Sleeve Shirt

The Sol Cool utilizes Icefil® technology to create the ultimate active shirt for hot weather. Xylitol, a naturally occurring compound found in the birch tree, is bound to the fabric fibers and cools the body up to five degrees upon contact with moisture, which is wicked away from the skin. The Sol Cool crew shirt is rated UPF Sun Guard 50+ for optimal sun protection.

So Cool Crew Long Sleeve Shirt

Good, but not recommended for climbing.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

The shirt does a good job of keeping you cool by wicking the moisture away so it evaporates and keeps you cool. It was just right for hiking.

I gave it four stars because I wanted to use it for climbing. However, the first time I used arm-bars climbing an off width Crack, the stitching on the arm fell apart. So, I can't recommend it for climbers.

I always wear a medium, and the medium fit perfectly.
