Who said that climbing shoes have to be uncomfortable?

Evolv designed its Women's Elektra Climbing Shoe specifically for people (women or men) with low-volume feet so you can learn how to climb without shoes that flop all over. A flat profile with a low asymmetric curvature makes this shoe an excellent starter for beginners in a gym, and it performs well when you take it to outdoor crags. Evolv made the upper out of Synthratek, which is essentially perforated synthetic leather that's sturdy and rigid yet incredibly breathable. The shoe's nylon lining offers plush comfort that you appreciate when you're hanging from a top rope for what feels like hours. And two hook-and-loop straps offer a simple yet secure closure.

Evolv added an MX-P midsole that's soft and sensitive so you can feel the rock and learn how to smear with an impeccable prowess. The Trax rubber sole features high friction that helps prevent you from slipping off the greasiest foot holds in the gym, and a VTR rand at the toe keeps you climbing in this comfortable shoe for a long time.

Comfy Beginner Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is a great shoe if you're just looking for a comfortable beginner shoe. There's no downturn and it's a pretty soft shoe, so you can wear them comfortably in the gym for hours. I usually buy laces, but I have to say, the velcro straps are super convenient. I think it fits just a little small so I'd recommend sizing a half size up!

Love the fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are the first climbing shoes I have worn and liked immediately. The fit was amazing and they are super versatile. They fit me right off the bat, and continue to mold to my foot. Super happy with this find and I highly recommend for any beginner or intermediate climber.

Awesome beginner shoe

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I picked these up for my girlfriend to use as her first climbing shoe. The fit was great and they didn't have any issues while we were spending the day out at the crag. Definitely a solid choice for a beginner shoe.

Great beginner shoe.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5'8"
  • Weight: 135lbs

This was my first shoe. So, I got it for my sister, who is new to climbing. she did not complain once, so I'd call that a success.

This shoe performs very well, and will get anyone from a beginner to the intermediate stage.

I size these to my hiking boot size, and it was great. but, my feet are conditioned. If you are new, size up 1/2 a size. My sister wears size 9 hiking shoes, but can sometimes be an 8.5. The size nine was good for her.

Great beginner shoe.

Great buy!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 7

New to climbing, I didn't want to be too uncomfortable while learning. These shoes are the best for that! Comfortable and functional. They do run small, I usually wear a size 6 and ordered a size 7. They fit perfectly.

Great Shoe But Runs Small

  • Fit: Runs small

I know you have to have tight climbing shoes but order a size up instead of down. They run really small. I'm a size 7 in street shoes and I ordered a size 8 and they were the snug fit I was looking for. Great for people who are starting out on rockclimbing.

Amazing shoe

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 8
  • Height: 5'4"
  • Weight: 110lbs

I have had this shoe a year. It has progressed me from V0 to V4, and to this day I love this shoe. It does fit really snug- I wear a 7.5 and sized up to an 8. It took a little breaking in but now they are perfect, and I wear them multiple days a week for hours at a time. Perfect for a beginner. The rubber is very sturdy and if you're mindful to not drag your toes, will last a good while. I personally got the lace-ups, but the Velcro version is just as good. Mine were just on sale at the time.

However, make sure you air them out. They can get a little smelly, depending on how much you sweat. Not bad unless you leave them in a hot car.

Great first shoe

As a guy with narrow feet, I enjoyed the fit of this shoe more than The fit of the Evolve Defy (the Men's version of the elektra). And after a solid year usage, my shoes are just about done (I could resolve them but they smell awful!)

    The sizing is SO whacky

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 10.5
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I really wanted to love these shoes. I went into a store in town and tried on the same brand to get an idea for sizing. I usually wear a 8.5 street shoe and ended up ordering a 10.5 (since the 10 they had in the store was way past just snug and actually painful to wear). The 10.5 was really way too roomy around my toes but fit perfect length wise... so I am just assuming this shoe would not fit me at all in general.

    • Fit: Runs small

I have heard great reviews about how these shoes climb very well for a comfortable shoe and I though I'd give them a try. I'm a 7 1/2 women's street shoe size. For years I've worn the Mythos in a 37 and they fit perfectly. The 38.5 fits quite well. I haven't used them yet but I hear the synthetic material doesn't stretch much. Seem like they'll be better than my mythos.

    Awesome Shoe for Newbies

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 7
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 150lbs

These were given to my as a gift since I am a new climber. I have only used them bouldering, but they are a huge step up from the shoes I was renting at the gym. They do run small, so I would recommend ordering larger. They're easy to put on (velcro!), and I don't feel the need remove them as soon as I'm done with a project.

    Great starter shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small

I got these shoes so I wouldn't have to keep renting at the gym and wanted to be able to go outdoors to climb. So far they are great. I had read other reviews and ordered a full size up from my street size (street size 8.5, elektra 9.5). They are snug but comfortable enough for me to hang out in when in between climbs. So far have had nothing but great climbs in and outdoors with them!

    Good beginner shoe, RUNS SMALL

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 8

As stated in the other reviews, this shoe does run really small. I wear a 7, and initially ordered a 7.5 which I had to exchange. 8 feels great!
These were recommended to me by several friends as a good beginner shoe. No complaints yet, but I have only worn them a couple of times, and I have basically zero climbing experience.

I will update later if needed when I have worn these for a bit longer.

    Birthday Beginner Gift

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs small

I bought these as a gift for someone and she loves them. Runs slightly small...comfortable overall and a great shoe to have as your "first very own shoes" :) as quoted by the receiver! Sticky, edgy and overall perfect shoe for introduction into a life of climbing rocks! Done! :)

    Great beginner, good price

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 8
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 130lbs

This is a great shoe for a new climber. They're super grippy and comfortable. As an added plus, they're also dirt-cheap!

The velco closures are a plus, as they making getting in and out of your shoes very easy and they are easy to readjust to adapt swelling feet. The uppers are synthetic, not leather, so the shoes won't stretch out. Additionally, since they're synthetic, they wont bleed and dye your feet once you start sweating.

My pair lasted a solid two winter seasons of indoor climbing 2-4 times a week before showing noticeable wear and damage. In my opinion (take this with a grain of salt as I’ve only used a few pairs of shoes) The rand is a bit thin and barely lasted a season after I discovered my love for crack climbing. The seal between the rand and the sole broke, and the rand began to pull away from the uppers.

    Great for kids starting out

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Ignore my height/weight
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 169lbs

5 out of 5 for this shoe so far. I bought two pair for my young nieces to help them learn to climb better. They seem to feel very comfortable in the shoe, and I have not heard one complaint about them yet. I bought them a little big to give them room to grow, and just have them wear socks for now to take up extra space. Kids love them and a great beginner shoe for them.

We've used them in the gym and outdoors and they've functioned well in both settings. We're by no means expert climbers, but we've been really happy with these shoes on the 5.7s, 5.8s, and 5.9s we've used them on.

    Beginner shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

I just recently started outdoor climbing and these were recommended by a friend as a good beginner shoe. I like the velcro, and they definitely run small. I typically wear a 7 and ordered am 8 in these and they fit like they should. Overall a fine shoe! i'll update this review if i have any additional feedback after getting some more hours in on these bad boys.
