Boasting more travel than the previous model and a totally revamped frame, the updated Insurgent is a long-travel, 27.5-wheeled beast of a bike that can still be pedaled as your daily driver. It's built to be fun, fast, and functional with its trail-taming DELTA suspension and progressive geometry numbers, and a new carbon frame that's stiffer and more durable than the last. Approaching the trail with a freeride mentality and confidence-inspiring suspension, we’re hitting every drop, root, gap, and transfer we see along the way. Small features like the integrated chain guide, internal routing, and plenty of rubber protection keep the Insurgent running quiet and smooth season after season.
Geometry on The Insurgent is what we’d expect from a modern enduro/trail bike, with a slacked-out head tube, steep seat tube, long reach, and a long wheelbase it checks all the boxes for smashing trail. Already specced in what Evil calls the ‘low’ setting, riders can switch it up into ‘X-low’ for even more trail smashing goodness. In the low setting, the head-tube angle is a nice and slack 64.2° paired with a 76.9° seat-tube angle for all sorts of rowdy trail fun. The slack head-angle invites us to send it deep while the steep seat-tube angle makes grinding up fire roads less of a chore. The modern 480mm reach (size large) makes this bike stable in high-speed straights, while uber-short chainstays let us change our line on command and make wheelies and manuals easier than ever.
Spec on the Insurgent mirrors how our local pros would build up a burly bike park steed. Fitted with a RockShox Super Deluxe coil shock and a 180mm travel RockShox Zeb fork, the suspension is built to tackle chunder and send it deep on drops and gaps. Fitted with Industry Nine Enduro S wheels with quick-engaging Hydra hubs, these capable wheels fit high-volume rubber and offer some of the best hub performance on the market. Dropper duties are taken care of by the revered Bike Yoke Revive, so we’re getting our saddles well out of the way before shredding the double-back diamond runs.
The exceptional performance of the X01 drivetrain combined with some top-of-the-line suspension makes The Insurgent just as ready for race day as it is for park laps. This quality build has seen its way through brutal park days and big enduro race days without complaint, and we can’t wait to keep the wheels churning. The Evil finishing kit leaves no stone unturned, as the carbon handlebars help keep a bit of the harsh chunder at bay during all-day lift rides. SRAM Code RSC brakes take care of the stopping duties, the 4-pot pistons giving our bikes a powerful base to get our rigs under control. We’ll be sending harder than ever and showing up to the start line at the local midweek races, maybe snagging a few wins along the way.
