Midori 1 Tent: 1-Person 3-Season

Perfect for smaller backpack

I haven't used it yet, but I do have the Midori 2 that I've used. I intend to use it with my smaller pack for one or two-night trips. I set it up in my living room and everything went well. I didn't even knock over anything with the poles! It was easy to cut out a plastic ground cover for underneath.

The tent is lightweight and easy to set up. It could be a little bit lighter, but it is a great budget-conscious option for solo backpackers.

Great solo tent, very roomy.

Great solo tent, very roomy and easy to setup. Went backpacking around 11000 feet in late fall, wind gusts up to 70mph and this tent held up like a champ. Small enough footprint to hide in the trees. Only downside was the stakes that were supplied were a little too lightweight and bent easily. Love the supplied loft and the bonus vestibule on the back. The front vestibule was large enough to store my pack and the tent was a perfect height to make coffee in the morning without leaving the comfort of my sleeping bag. Great windbreak from an otherwise miserable windy and cold weekend. Packs down small enough to not have to strap on the outside of my pack as well. Yes there are lighter tents out there but they are mostly too compact, expensive and are made with ultralight/thin materials. This tent fit my price point perfectly.

Excellent Inexpensive Backpacking Tent

My son and I had been splitting a Midori 3 between our packs for several seasons, and really liked the design, construction and features at its mid-level price point. I needed a durable 1P tent for when sharing a tent wasn't possible, so it seemed like a no-brainer to go with the "little brother" of the product line—the Midori 1. I did consider other tents, but kept coming back to this one for various reasons. Here is what I really like: * Plenty of room to lie down (I'm 5'10"+ and I move around at night a fair bit) * Lots of head and shoulder room; I can easily change clothes, sit up and make coffee in the vestibule, etc. * The third "spreader" pole vaults out the ceiling, makes the tent door vertical, and results in a spacious feel; also rain does not drip in as easily if the vestibule door is unzipped * Good-sized main vestibule for my pack * "Bonus" vestibule (with a short interior access zipper) to get other stuff out of the way * Useful interior pockets * Sturdy construction (not ultralight, so fabrics are thicker) * designed for easy set-up * Side door access; no shimmying in from the end * The main tent is mostly mesh, meaning in another configuration it might make for a bug shelter underneath my ultralight backpacking tarp, and it also makes the inside feel more spacious as it "borrows" visual space from the fly. * I tested it on a rainy weekend camp-out with the Scouts and it kept me nice and dry * The price; this is a great value (I got mine as a Black Friday deal, which helped, too) To be fair, there are downsides, but they are few: * It's not the lightest thing in the world of backpacking tents (but to go much lighter you will generally need to either 1) spend a lot more for what's possibly a more fragile tent or 2) get something smaller that's potentially claustrophobic and less convenient to use) * It doesn't come with a ground sheet; I made my own out of a large trash compactor bag as it was about the lightest solution I could think of * One cost-saving move is the inclusion of standard shepherds hook stakes (although they are light aluminum ones); I replaced mine with MSR Mini Groundhogs but there are certainly other options All in all, this is a great little tent. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a solid mid-range 1P tent at a reasonable cost, and favors moderate cost, livability and durability over achieving the absolute lowest pack weight.

I've put it through the wringer

My previous tent broke and I had to buy this one last minute for my trip down the GDMBR. It worked out great. It was stable, light weight, and easy to set up after a long day of riding. I stayed dry the whole time and had plenty of room. The mesh pockets on the inside were great for storing belongings. The rainfly rain extended far enough where I could store gear out of the elements but still in arms reach. My biggest complaint about this tent, is that it doesn't have two doors. I know it's single person so you don't need to avoid climbing over someone to get out, but what if I wanna store more stuff under the rainfly and still have access to it? The side that doesn't have a door, does have a little zipper so you can reach outside of the tent if needed but it's not really practical (maybe I don't under the purpose of this zipper). If it had two doors, you could put gear under both sides of the rainfly with access to all of it. A silly complaint, yet valid is: I wish the rainfly had two access points so you could roll up both sides to allow air flow through the tent. It's a great tent that traps the heat but when the bugs are bad, the sun is relentless and you have to spend time in the tent to escape both, not being able to get air flow through, however rare, is rough! Otherwise, this is a great tent that met all my needs. Yes, I would recommend it while still airing my grievances.

WORST TENT EVER

THIS THING DOESNT KEEP RAIN OUT AND THE POLES ARE WEAKER THAN SOGGY NODDLES... IT IS NOT WEATHER RESISTANT AT ALL... YOU ARE BETTER OFF WITH A TRASH BAG!

Great tent!

I have both a Midori 1, and Midori 2 tent. I am very happy with these tents. The materials are excellent, the workmanship is excellent, and the design is excellent. The Midori 1 works very well for someone my size. I am 5' 10" tall. I can sit up, turn around and lay down in the tent resting with my hands behind my head and my elbows out without rubbing on the insides of the tent, which is how a judge a single person tent for practical use. The weight of the tent is good and the pack size is nice and compact. The rainfly, doors, and zippers all work well. I only have a couple of small things to suggest or pick at. I feel that the tie-out locations on the rainfly are too low on the tent. They should be located higher up on the tent for better stability in windy conditions. I also think the little vent window in the top of the rainfly should have more Velcro across it so it seals up better when closed in stormy conditions. Lastly, I think there should be some sort of change made to the vestibules on the tent so they don't flap in the wind. Either another tie-out point added to the bottom edge of the vestibule or a different cut to the shape. It just totally flaps in the wind with no way to keep it tight along the bottom. Other than that, love the tent and would recommend it. Eureka continues to make excellent products!

A easy to set up one person tent

The Midori was a nice gift for a good friend but would have preferred the slightly different and discontinued Backpacker 1 that has served me well for years.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This one person tent has worked well so far. The extra vestibule for storing gear and shoes is helpful as well as the side entry door. There is plenty of ventilation which would make this great in the summer but I'm not sure yet how solid it would be in Winter. It was an easy tent to put up as well.
