Why We Like The Assault Outfitter 4 Tent

Weekend warriors and other folks who like to camp every now and then can have those lighter, flimsier tents for seasons and seasons, but for those of us working or living outdoors then we believe you need something more durable like the Eureka Assault Outfitter 4 Tent.

Favored by outfitters and youth corps who spend months in the field, the Assault Outfitter is made with incredibly durable fabrics that should last a long time. Eureka even treated the fly with UN inhibitors just in case you leave it on all summer long. When it gets colder, you can adjust the high-low vent to let in less air and keep you warmer.

Weather Resistant

My son and I went camping for the weekend. It rained for 3 days. We were Dey all weekend. No wind but the tent felt very strong. It is not the easiest tent to set up but the two of us raised the tent with reasonable effort. The vestibule is very nice and spacious. I would recommend this for any level of camping experience. I recommend this for car camping. Backpacking with this would be a task.

Love this Tent

Went camping this past weekend. Thursday night we used a different tent. Heavy rains and wind and that tent fell and broke. Next day we set up my assault tent. That evening heavy rains and wind. We actually sat in my truck due to may needing to evacuate because of possible tornadoes. The rain was so heavy we couldn't see the tent. When the rains let up, I went in the tent to check on our gear...it was completely dry. I had originally got this tent when my daughter and I did polar camping with cub scouts. It held up in that weather also. I will never buy anything but a Eureka tent again.

Assault Tent

Awesome tent. Easy setup. Even for one person. On the first time using the tent there was a day with 25 mph winds/rain and it was just solid.

Update for 3 years of use.

First this is the best tent I have used. Used almost 45 nights so far. No leaks does great in wind. The only thing that I don’t like is the fact that it does not have a foot print available or a floor protector. I had to have ones made. I would recommend this tent highly and I camp with my grandson that’s in and out of the tent all day. Zippers downing great I am extremely happy with this tent.

Great value for $ and features

Prior to purchase I knew what features I wanted. This tent came the closest for the money. 1. Rectangular floor ( best use of space) will comfortably accomodate 4 with room to pile up your clothes or other possibles. I can use an 8' x 10" visqueen tarp from box store for ground sheet 2. Full coverage fly and 2 vestibules. Fly comes almost to the ground, minimizing wind driven rain blowing under tent 3. Ripstop fly and body 4 . Above average waterproof coating on fly and floor. Heavy duty Oxford nylon floor 5. Overall heavier duty 6. 4'8" height. You can sort of stand up to get dressed yet profile isn't so high that the wind grabs it more. 7. Plenty of guy out points. Obviously I didn't get this to save every oz. of weight. I purchased a duffle bag just the right size to keep it in, with better stakes and the ground sheet. The duffle bag makes it easier to carry with handles instead of a stuff sack. The whole works weighs about 23 pounds. It works great for 2 people with low profile cots. Only issue is a design issue being a relatively flat spot on fly above main door roughly 10" x 10". I guy out from apex of pole and tighten up the fly there pretty good to prevent water from pooling in that area

My favorite tent!

My Scout , wife and I spent a month in this baby. Spent some winter nights out to see how it and the bags would do in near 0 temps. I'm happy! Aluminum poles, check; 2 doors with your choice of ventilation, check; 2 upper vents that are not quite up top so rain is never coming in, check; 2 vestibules, check; and my favorite part: Sleeping "north/south" so everyone can come and go without crawling over you! I have a very nice Marmot that was less well ventilated but easier. A 4th of July Scout camp was not so fun (we must use the fly in the humid midwest) and this is why I wanted to try the Assault Outfitter as I knew the venting would be better. This model made me a Eureka fan so I picked up a Summer Pass 3 to try out in the warmest weather but it's not bombproof like this. A bit pricey, no included footprint (come on guys) and I wonder if having one of the three (identical) poles an inch or two shorter would prevent the known problem of a bit of water pooling without having to really stretch the fly very taught. It has never leaked but I'm not a fan of pooling water/snow. I honestly wonder if I would have bought our pop up camper if I had this tent in my hands before we made that purchase?

great features. maximum use of space

Prior to purchase, I knew what features I wanted in a tent and this tent came the closest for the money. Features like: - size of foootprint and orientation to door opening. (you could actually fit 4 bodies in there) - the fly comes practically all the way to the ground and vestibule on each end ( keeps wind driven rain from getting between tent and ground sheet) - fly fabric and body fabric ( I prefer ripstop nylon instead of taffeta) - cordura floor ( seems more durable than ordinary nylon) - pole sleeves ( instead of clips) - fly and floor coating spec.ed out more than a lot of tents A couple things that annoyed me: - I need to use 1 or 2 guy lines over main vestibule, pulled pretty darn tight to keep water from ponding right behind apex of door pole. This seems like a simple engineering solution. Have the apex of the door pole about an inch or so higher or lower. - Given the size of the side panels on the fly, a reinforced guy-out point in the center of each panel would be nice as well as one in the middle of the vestibule panel for when its really windy. - I know the vestibule is designed to double as an awning but I wish the zipper was near the tent body instead of 4 ft. away from tent door, down in the corner. Most tents with similar vestibules are designed this way. It works fine on the way into the tent. Not so much on the way out, especially after you have fumbled around in the dark, looking for your flashlight in the middle of the night because you need to take a leak really bad and you can't hold it anymore and, on hands and knees, are trying, with one hand, to reach the fly zipper ( not the one on my pants because I'm not wearing them) down in that far away corner, whilst cussing because the zipper won't easily go up with one hand. Yea. Its like that. This is not an ultralight backpacking tent. Why do people say they share the weight (each carry different components of the tent) to keep the weight they need to carry down? Is that all they have to carry? The postman once told my mother, who was mailing me a new shirt, that it was too heavy to mail with the buttons on so she cut them all off and put them in the shirt pocket. I t doesn't make any sense.

I had to switch!

My 60yr old Timberline had to finally be replaced. This heavy-duty wind resistant tent will get me through the wind and rain coming my way. Thanks for getting this product in the market!

Strong like bull

So the weather forecast wasn’t looking good for our week long camp trip in the Adirondacks during the last days of September and first days of October. My girl and I with our combined three large dogs packed up the truck, hooked up the boat and headed out on our 6 1/2 hour journey north. Can’t be that bad, we are off from work and don’t expect to have cell service. Off the grid so to speak. Well the forecast was correct. It rained every day. We lived in our rain gear for most of the trip. The Eureka Assault 4 tent was on its first trip from purchase. We couldn’t have picked a better tent. This tent kept us dry and cozy in the wind and rain every night. With three aluminum poles of the same length this tent is easy to set up, sturdy and well constructed, had plenty of room for the two of us, the three dogs, and our gear. The high/low venting worked keeping condensation to a none issue. The two doors were nice to have and provided easy access in and out. We would have liked to see a few more ceiling lash loops. This heavy duty shelter is understandably weighty. I wouldn’t recommend backpacking with it. In summary Eureka provided us with a trustworthy adversary to some of nature’s elements and for that we thank you.

Excellent 3 season tent!

I purchased my Assault Outfitter 4 tent for a fishing trip to Northern Michigan. it was easy to set up for 1 person(I didn't set it up before the trip), may have been easier with 2 people. The poles are sturdy. Heavy wind and rain were not a problem. I did not stake out the rain fly "guy wires", but would recommend it for an extended camping session. Very nice tent, stayed warm on nights into the 40s. Could be a little warm on a hot Summer night. HiLow ventilation definitely worked on the first night that was warmer. Closed it up tight for the cold rainy nights. My XL Outfitters Cot from a popular outdoors store barely fit in the tent was my only disappointment. Sidewall dimensions are obviously not the same as the floor measurements.
