    Miracle gear.

In the middle of insurmountable climbs, we've all shakily thrown our shift lever hoping we had a miracle gear left to get us over the nasty, root-laced crux. It's usually not there. But after a deluge of seemingly too-wide-to-be true cassettes emerged recently, the possibility of those elusive miracle gears is more real than ever before. E*thirteen components jumps into that deluge with its TRS Race 11-Speed Cassette, and its immense 9-46t range remains one of the largest on the market.

Perhaps the only downside to mounting a cassette with a colossal 511% range onto your squishy enduro rig is the fact that you won't be able to use suspension or gearing as an excuse on a steep climb when you're just plain out of shape. Of course, if you're riding with any regularity, you'd be hard pressed to run out of gearing on either side of the cassette, but don't think your ride crew will let you get away with walking up a lofty roller without some heckling if you've got the TRS Race gleaming on your rear wheel.

    Shifts Great!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I don’t mind some jumps between gears if I have more range than Eagle in a lighter package. Shifts very, very well with Shimano XTR and a SRAM chain.

    HUGE Range!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Wow, what an incredible piece of engineering! The ethirteen TRS Race 11-speed cassette goes from a ridiculously fast 9-tooth cog ALL the way up to the ultra-granny 46 tooth. It's existence is what convinced me to try out XTR di2 over SRAM Eagle, because the 9-46 range is actually even BIGGER than Eagle's 10-50 (which had previously blown me away).

I've ridden the heck out of the ethirteen and loved every second of the many many and widely-ranged gears.

    who needs eagle?

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

so far so good with this cassette. Its amazing how different my bike climbs with the extra gearing. Installing this on a sram freehub body, and drivetrain was easy. I have a medium cage derailleur which doesn't have any problems getting around that 46t cog. As long as this holds up it is my solution to climbing but not running out of gears on the DH. I am only a few weeks into using it so feel free to reach out with questions and i will update this if anything changes .

    Hey Sewall,

I really have enjoyed having the cassette. It has been just as smooth so far as any sram cassette i have had and made me much better climbing. There are no mods that need to be made any medium cage derailleur works fine. Only thing i have noticed is i have to tune it a little more often but besides that love the range. We will see if the 9t holds up now that the lifts are spinning here in Park City. Shoot me an email or give me a call to chat more!

Hi Justin. Just checking as to how you’re travelling with the e-thirteen cassette? Do you have a feel for durability versus the likes of Shimano and SRAM? If it’s a goer, I will start the process of taking all my SRAM XX 10-42T units across to this model.

    Appreciate your thoughts.

    Regards
    Gus
