Why We Like The Tommy Caldwell Pro Dry DT Climbing Rope

The Edelrid Tommy Caldwell Pro Dry DT Climbing Rope is ideal for when we're projecting hard routes, whether they're fifteen pitches up or at a roadside crag, and is fully prepared for alpine objectives as grand as the Fitz Roy traverse.

Edelrid's Pro Dry treatment reduces water absorption to less than 2% as per UIAA Water Repellent Test, and it provides outstanding resistance against abrasion as well as water. Thermo Shield bonds the core to the sheath for better handling, eliminated sheath slippage, and longer-lasting durability. Plus, we love how Edelrid lap coiled this rope to ensure it comes ready out of the packaging without any kinks or tangles.

Quality rope, but weird niche

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
70m

I got this rope because I wanted something I can take on alpine multipitches but also occasionally tr with friends without completely obliterating the rope. It?s worn a bit faster than I expected (but probably reasonable for the amount of TRing I?ve done with it). Still usable and haven?t cut the ends after a year of consistent use. It?s fine if you REALLY only want one rope for many types of climbing. But it?s heavy like a TR workhorse but not as durable as a 10mm either. When I?m slogging up long approaches I wish I had gotten a thinner/lighter rope, and when TRing I wish I wasn?t using something so expensive. I?d say it?s good for trad/sport cragging and multipitch with minimal approach but not much else. You?d want a thicker/cheaper rope for toprope and a lighter, less durable rope for red points and multipitch that has any sort of approach. It?s a quality product if you want a jack of all trades, master of none rope. But certainly a high price tag for just a ?daily driver? type rope. Edelrid makes ropes that fill this exact niche for much cheaper so I will be looking there when I retire this rope.

The Ideal Trad Rope

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I'm not sure how I ever lived without a bi-pattern rope. It's also light, strong... and just everything I could ever want in a rope for running around on multi-pitch trad.
