Simple start.

There'll be plenty of time to geek out on the different flies and fly lines out there once you have a few months of fishing under you belt, but it's best to keep things simple when you're learning with the Echo Traverse Fly Rod and Reel Kit. Echo made this kit ready to fish—with the addition of a few flies and some leader—right out of the box and gave the rod a beginner-friendly action that strikes a good balance between power and speed. The cast aluminum reel is fitted with a smooth disc drag system to protect delicate tippets when you do hook into that first trophy trout, and it comes pre-spooled with a weight-forward fly line to help ease the learning curve as you learn to double haul and roll cast.

  • Rod and reel combo kit ideal for first time fly fishers
  • Graphite rod with moderate action great for learning
  • Cast aluminum reel comes pre-spooled with fly line
  • Included carry case protects rod and reel while travelling

Broke the first day on the water

While it may have been a lemon, the tip snapped my first time taking it out. It was about 25 degrees outside, so the cold was likely a factor. Still, a $250+ brand new rod that can’t handle a cold spring morning? Cannot recommend. Do yourself a favor and invest in a better built rod. One pro is that the manufacture did warranty this, but had they not, a replacement tip is only about $20 from their website. Still, do you really want to replace snapped tips all the time?

how is the new tip working? any more issues?

Great rod all around for price

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is a great rod to get you into fly fishing, and a great rod to keep you fly fishing. I know expert guides that like to use this kit because it performs well, gets the job done and echo is awesome with their warranty. Not everyone can afford the 800-1000 kits, but it doesn’t mean you should suffer because of that. We all want to get out there and catch fish big and small and the numbers of the low thousands, but just don’t want to have to sell one of our kidneys for it. This kit will complete the task and let you keep both of those kidneys.

Great kit!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is a wonderful beginner or startup combo set! Also good if you are just wanting to add a fairly inexpensive new rod and reel to the quiver .
