    A lightweight leader.

Crafted from forged and shot-peened aluminum, Easton's EA70 stem offers superior strength for mountain use, but it's still svelte enough for road duty. To achieve this, Easton aligns the aluminum grain structure so less material is needed without a sacrifice to performance.

The EA70 uses a four-bolt clamp with Top-Lock, which is essentially a tongue and groove interface that virtually eliminates bending forces on the top two bolts, improving durability and strength without adding weight. In use, the top two bolts are torqued first in order to draw the Top-Lock connection tight. Then the lower two bolts are torqued to spec, ensuring a snug, distortion free junction with the handlebar.

The stem body and faceplate also feature extra material on either side of the clamp section. This, along with the narrowed bolt centers, work to distribute stresses along a greater section of the handlebar. Easton works hard in their testing lab to make sure that the EA70 will be not only compatible, but safe to use with your lightweight handlebars.

The Easton EA70 Stem has a 31.8mm clamp diameter and is designed for 1-1/8" steerers only. It has a ±6° and ±20° rise and is available in 90, 100, 110, 120, and 130mm lengths.

A Stealth and Solid, Versatile Stem

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Running the EA70 Stem with the EA70 Flat/Wide bars on my single-speed 29er. I dig it. It looks great with the stealthy grey graphics and it holds my handlebars on my bike so I can't complain. It's light, and a great value as well. It will probably last forever...literally.

    Unanswered Question

This stem does not have the tongue and groove interface as pictured in the included instructions. Should I disregard the included instructions (torque the top bolts first) and install like a normal 4-bolt stem (torque all bolts equally) ?

This stem doesn't appear to have the tongue and groove interface that's described both here and in the included instructions. What gives?
