    Choose a different path.

While most people like to relax on beaches for their vacations, you'd rather be thru-hiking the Muir trail or backpacking across Europe. However you choose to stray from the beaten path, do it with the help of the Eagle Creek Men's Deviate 60L Travel Backpack. It has a large main pack with tons of features to help you manage your load, and it also has a smaller zip-off modular backpack for day hikes or trips into town.

Tough fabrics help the Deviate withstand the rigors of life on the road (or trail), and the FlexFlo suspension system features a molded polycarbonate framesheet that helps your bag maintain its shape without tacking on a ton of weight. Compression straps help balance the load and keep things securely in place. A three-liter hydration compartment keeps water handy on long treks, and the Air Mesh shoulder straps, back panel, and waist belt allow for cool and comfortable carrying. It's also equipped with a Check-In Fly that serves as a rain cover when you get caught in a downpour and also doubles as a zippered duffel bag in case you come back from your trip with more stuff than you started with.

The zip-off modular backpack is perfect for when you don't need to lug around your entire pack while exploring a nearby peak or seeing the sights in the city. It has a padded electronics pocket to keep your phone or tablet safe and sound, and the RFID Blocker pocket prevents identity theft for your security. Reflective accents make you more visible at night, and color-coded webbing loops make it easy to reattach to the main pack when it's time to get moving again.

    Poor Quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really want to love this product. Versatile, practical, and fairly comfortable. However, it is poor quality. Poor quality products really agitate me and while there are some good things about this pack, the fact that it exhibits poor craftsmanship is enough for me to give it only 1 star.

Poor stitching. Several areas exhibit loose, undone, or inadequate stitching. Specifically, the stitching on the elastic bands on top of the external mesh pockets coming undone. I have had the product for less than 3 months. It doesn't matter if the rest of the pack is good if part of it is deteriorating after less than 3 months. Why should I have confidence in the rest of the pack lasting? Even if there are never any other deficiencies with the rest of the pack I will have a pack that has deficient external mesh pockets.

Sure the product is covered by Eagle Creek's No-Matter-What warranty, but do you really want to have a product repaired or replaced just to have it fail on you in the same way after another 3 months? You're essentially just increasing the original purchase price of the product by paying for shipping to the repair facility even if they cover the cost of shipping the repaired/replaced product back to you. When you pay this much for something you expect it to last, especially longer than 3 months.

    Epic disappointment.
