Versatile down for year-round adventures at high altitudes.

The Dynafit Men's Vulcan Down Jacket provides year-round warmth for ski touring in winter and high-elevation backpacking in summer. Its Pertex Quantum shell resists abrasion and is windproof, and the jacket's 750-fill European down keeps the jacket warm, packable, and light, and utilizes a DownTek treatment to help the down retain its loft even if it gets damp. The athletic fit means you can easily layer a waterproof shell overtop during nonstop storms. This down jacket also features elastic bindings around the cuffs and hem for a snug fit, and zippered hand and chest pockets.

    A great mid-layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this jacket to use strictly as a down mid-layer. The only other mid-type layer that I can compare it to is the Arc'Teryx Atom LT. The Dynafit is noticeably warmer than the Arc'Teryx and probably a touch slimmer - though they both fit me well in a medium. The elastic cuffs make a good seal at the wrists and at the waist to help keep the wind out. The only negatives for me are the colour and the two-way zippers. I ordered the Voltage and it's more of a traditional bright blue instead of the slightly darker marine blue version shown above. Two-way zippers are just a fussy thing for me - lots of people love them but I find they can creep up and unzip on you if you aren't careful with them. Overall it's a great down mid-layer!

    great fit and quality

Raglan style shoulders and sleeves which eliminate the "boxy" look and feel. I am 168 lbs with a 34-35 sleeve length, broader shoulders and a 33-34 waist.
I have a medium and its money. This is a perfect mid layer in my book for in bounds skiing or out. The claimed weight is 11.7 oz.
There is a fine line with too much or too little insulation in either synthetic or down mid layer jackets. I personally view this jacket
as a "midlayer" and have owned many different high end brands.
I believe for me this is the best combo of insulation first and the fit is just an awesome bonus second.

Very little down in this jacket

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: True to size

I like Dynafit/Salewa gear alot, but this jacket was not what I was hoping for. I wish the ratings for down fill were different because while this jacket is 750 fill, the amount of 750 fill in it is sparse. I was looking for a warm jacket that would provide a lot of warmth and this one just isn't it. This is more like a padded shirt than a jacket. I liked the style a lot and the fit, but it just isn't a harsh cold weather down jacket.
