The Speed Ski Pole from Dynafit was designed for all you ski touring enthusiasts who seek to move fast on high-alpine tours. Its carbon fiber construction on the upper half of the pole keeps it lightweight for burly ascents while the lower portion is Titanal for protection from rocks and other debris. A Nordic grip ensures optimum power transfer while the Butterfly Basket 2.0 adapts to terrain as needed. The split design of the basket allows it to hold on various types of snow during traversing. So even when you find yourself huffing up a skin track to some deep powder turns, the basket will still stay afloat to save your energy for the descent.

    Amazingly Light and Strong

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought these poles to use on a 6 day traverse of the Picket range in Washington. I decided on these poles for weight purposes, as they are less than half the weight of my Black Diamond poles. I was a little wary about using such a lightweight pole for a 6 day trip but after beating the crap out of them, I can confirm that they can hold up to abuse!

The bottoms of the poles have a very sharp steel point that easily pieces ice and was really nice to have on certain icy sections of the traverse. The grip on the pole is not my favorite but it does the job.

The poles do have directional baskets as well as the metal point on the end, so you sometimes have to twist the pole sideways into a hill to get it to stick. I would highly recommend getting golf grip tape and applying it below the grip if you need to choke up on the pole.

My only gripe with the poles is that they don't stick into the snow well to stand them up. We usually ended up putting the grip side into the snow instead but that tended to ice up the grip sometimes. Im 5'8" and ordered the 125mm length, which seemed to work well for skiing and skinning.
