Speed 90 Ski

Designed for the skier that isn't appeased by low-hanging fruit, the Dynafit Speed 90 Ski is a long-haul vehicle optimized for long tours, contoured skintracks, and big objectives. The ski's 90mm waist is the widest option in Dynafit's Speed Series, making it the best ski in the line softer conditions—although, it's more than capable of holding its own when confronted with windboard and refrozen ice. Striking a balance between downhill performance and a lighter weight for the ascent, Dynafit built the ski using its 3D Tech construction, which utilizes micro sidewalls to direct more power to the edges when you're edging down a steep line in less-than-ideal conditions. The 3D Tip helps reduce chatter when skiing at higher speeds, and a combination of carbon and fiberglass laminates increase torsional rigidity for added security when you're skiing in a no-fall zone.

  • Backcountry skis designed for big objectives and remote lines
  • Midfat 90mm waist is ideal for variable alpine conditions
  • Early rise tip and tail with camber underfoot for edge-hold
  • Full micro sidewalls reduce weight while maintaining power
  • Reinforced, notched alloy tip offers a secure skin attachment
  • Durable paulownia wood core with carbon and fiberglass laminates
  • Item #DNF00CH

Great uphill and great down hill

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

When buying a backcountry ski I'm constantly trying to meet a balance between uphill and downhill performance and the speed 90 does not disappoint. The Speed 90 is the perfect tool for long demanding approaches to get to a real ski objective. I'm 6'4", 180lb and I have the 184 cm length. The 125mm rockered tip with a 91mm waist provides adequate floatation in the fresh and is quick edge to edge and responsive in tight areas and in firm snow. The ski's micro sidewall provides torsional stiffness underfoot, this feature combined with the camber underfoot help with holding an edge on firm snow. The ski does chatter some on hard snow at high speeds but with a ski this light the chattering is minimal. This is an excellent ski for the weight conscious backcountry tourer who is wanting to move fast on the up and the down!

Solid All Arounder

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I used this ski, paired with the Superlite 12 binding and the Speed 90 Skin, about 40 days last season; from December to June, Chamonix to Mt. Rainier and everywhere in between. This ski was able to handle it all (crud, slush, windboard, soft powder) with relative ease. The traditional profile of the ski took a bit of getting used to but that was likely due to the fact that I sized down (176cm) from what I normally ski (180-185cm). After a short break in period to understand how the ski would handle, it became my go-to ski for light and fast missions, after work uphill laps and I even used it as an approach ski for some relatively remote north facing alpine routes in Chamonix. I appreciated how rigid and responsive the ski felt without being overly difficult to handle. Overall I thought this ski was a great daily driver but if I had to ski deep, soft snow (poor me) I'd likely choose something with a bit more beef to it. I think this is a great ski for an advanced in-bounds skier looking for a ski that'll do it all and then some.
