XM 1501 Spline One 40 Boost Wheel
Seeing that plus-sized bikes are rapidly gaining traction in the industry and on the trail, it only makes sense that wheel manufacturers would cater to this popular new size. DT Swiss set out to develop their very own line of all-mountain wheels tailored to these big-wheeled brawlers with their XM 1501 Spline One 40 Boost 27.5+in Wheel. This 27.5+in wheel balances the needs of durability and stiffness for aggressive riders seeking an aluminum wheel—all without the sticker shock of pricier carbon hoops. It can do it all, from rock-strewn descents to twisting trails through the local forest.
Significantly wider than standard, the 40-millimeter internal width places it into a progressive realm of plus-sized wheels designed for voluminous rubber. This added width comfortably supports the 2.8 to 3-inch behemoths you're running on your 27.5+ trail bike without distorting the tire shape. Running these larger tires allows you to significantly lower tire pressure, providing gobs of grip across loose, rock-strewn trails, as well as plush support when the going gets especially rough.
Accommodating the Boost standards ubiquitous to modern trail machines, the XM 1501 Spline One 27.5+ Wheel benefits from extra stiffness afforded by its wider hub spacing, in turn improving the spoke bracing angle for a reliably stout, stiff build. Speaking of hubs, DT Swiss employs a custom version of their legendary 240s straightpull hub, complete with a 36-tooth ratchet on the rear for quick engagement. The straightpull hub design accommodates straight spokes without a bend at the head, thereby eliminating weak spots. This makes it all the more tough and responsive, seeing you'll be thrashing this wheel for years to come.
This particular wheel is available as a front or rear, in Boost spacing only. As a rear wheel, there's an included SRAM XD freehub body conversion for SRAM's newest 1x11 and 1x12 drivetrains. If you're rocking a Shimano drivetrain or SRAM 9/10-speed set-up, it'll work with these straight from the box. It's optimized for tubeless set-up, seeing as how you'll want to reap the benefits of running lower pressure with plus-sized tires. DT Swiss includes a tubeless valve and tape with each wheel for convenience, as well as center lock/IS adapter for fitting your 6-bolt brake rotors.
