DPS skis designed Phantom Glide wax to provide a permanent freshly waxed feel to the base of your skis. This rub on DIY kit needs to be applied in the sun to cure, so that your skis will glide reliably for the rest of their life. Phantom professionaly applied to my back country skis, hence limited downhill vertical use as most of my time is uphill travel. Works for awhile, concept is good, though the product does not live up to it's claim. I'm already having to wax my skis myself as snow is heavily sticking to the base compromising my glide. Don't waste your money, use eco wax.

I am VERY impressed with the performance of Phantom. I recently had Phantom applied to my new backcountry/touring skis before using them, and just had my resort skis tuned (full base grind and wax), so I was able to compare the two "technologies" side-by-side. I skied the base ground/waxed skis and Phantom skis one day after the other - both days were very similar 45F degree spring skiing days at Killington, VT with very similar snow conditions. Both skis are a similar in width and length as well - 170cm and 100mm underfoot vs. 172cm and 104mm underfoot. The traditional waxed skis were marginally better than the Phantom for the first and even second run, but after that their glide performance decreased substantially as the day went on. The Phantom, on the other hand, didn't start out as strongly on the first run as the wax, but its glide performance was very similar to the waxed ski's second or third run and remained EXACTLY THE SAME throughout the entire day despite the warming conditions as the day went on. I was consistently flying past other skiers on flat, traverse runs in the spring snow and barely noticed a difference in glide when transitioning from sun to shade to puddles, which is usually incredibly violent on poorly waxed skis. I had Phantom professionally installed at REI since I wanted it to be done correctly given the price, so I can't speak to the self-installation process, but I couldn't be more pleased with the snow performance and will be adding this to my other skis for next season.
