While gravel road racing is quickly gaining popularity, the question remains of which type of bike is best suited for gravel. So, Diamondback sought to nip such an issue in the bud by picking and choosing the best parts from all different varieties. Combining the best of road, mountain, and cyclocross designs, the Diamondback Haanjo 1X Comp Complete Bike serves up an economical, yet race-ready bike that'll have you running the course and cruising through town with equal adeptness.
Since riding rut-ridden gravel snatches energy from your legs and beats up your core, the amount of comfort, stability, and endurance your bike provides is of the utmost importance. Focusing on such factors, the Haanjo features an Endurance geometry, which offers a relaxed head tube angle in order to reduce strain on your lower back while you're stretched over the hoods. Not only does this improve the fit for riders with less flexibility and pelvic rotation, but it also creates more stability and easier handling compared to most other cyclocross bikes.
Meanwhile, the frame itself is constructed from 6061-T6 butted aluminum, which—when tubes are butted instead of featuring a continuous wall thickness—allows the ends of the tubes to be given varying widths. The butted construction removes the stress concentration that occurs in the joints of bikes that aren't butted, resulting in an overall stronger frame. And when you factor in Diamondback's Gravel Disc carbon leg fork that takes the edge off rough road chatter, you have the ideal gravel road bike.
This bike's driven by an SRAM S350 X-Sync with 44T Chainring crankset, which has been combined with an 11-speed SRAM PG1130 11-42T cassette and a KMC X11EL chain for smooth gearing in all conditions. Then, the HED Tomcat disc wheels, which are wrapped in Kenda Flintridge 700x40 tires, ensure you cruise over pavement, gravel, and dirt easily. Meanwhile, reliable stopping power is provided by Apex 1 hydraulic disc brakes with a 160mm front rotor and a 140mm rotor at the rear. Plus, Diamondback also added rack and fender mounts to make Haanjo is completely ready for either racing, commuting, or touring.
