Deuter Speedlite 22 SL

I returned this product before using it

Beautiful backpack but way too large for a petite 5 ft woman. Looking to purchase a smaller size with Back Country again.

Versatile backpack for the win!

I've used it several times

After I recurved this backpack, I was so excited that I took all of my stuff out of my regular backpack and started using this right away! From the start, I noticed that this daypack has the most amazing support. This is huge for helping to relieve the weight of the contents, and minimizes any strain. The straps are great for that extra support and stability when hiking; it changes the experience completely... no more slouching! It’s safe to say that my backpack prior to this has been stored away in the closet for a month or so now...

Great for Day Hiking

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review Is my personal opinion. I used the Deuter Speed Lite SL 22L Backpack backpack for a hike up for sunset in a remote location on Oahu, HI. It was able to hold my 3 liters of water (to share because others were carrying heavy camera equipment), two bottles of champagne (to celebrate with), some snacks, and my rain coat (just in case). I'm 5'5, 135 lbs. and the pack felt light and fit me well. It was perfect for the occasion of needing to carry more than just water. The Deuter Speed Lite SL 22L Backpack was actually larger than I expected it to be, but the straps allow it to compress smaller if you don't fill the bag completely. It felt breathable on my back and I was able to reach everything I needed. One thing that confused me is that all of my other backpacks have the hydration tubing coming out of the top. The tags that came with the Deuter Speed Lite SL 22L Backpack also showed the hydration tubing coming out of the top of the pack. However, after much confusion I checked the website and found the hydration tubing on the Deuter Speed Lite SL 22L Backpack comes out on the side of the pack. This is unique and the tags should maybe be changed to show that distinction because I had trouble finding a way for the tubing to come out the first time. Overall I loved the Deuter Speed Lite SL 22L Backpack. It was the perfect in between pack as the only other packs I have are a very small one for only a camelback and a backpacking one that is for multiple day trips. Highly recommend for places where you need to take additional layers or will remove layers on a hike!

Practical and Comfortable

I've used it several times

I just returned from a trip to Moab and was able to use this pack for a few day hikes. I am 5'9" with a long torso and usually buy a Men's Medium sized pack. For the Deuter Speed Lite 22 SL Women’s Backpack I went with a Women's Large, the fit was perfect and quite comfortable. I was able to adjust the straps enough so it didn't ride up to my ribs when I started hiking which is usually the issue I have with women's packs. My one complaint is that my water bladder tip did not fit through the designated hole so I had to bring it out through the zipper. Not a big deal, but thought it is worth noting. I appreciated the small compartment on the top that perfectly fits keys, phone, and wallet so they don't get lost with everything else. The fabric for the pack is very durable, I had no worries about it getting torn or snagged while climbing through the rocks. The Deuter Speed Lite 22 SL Women’s Backpack is a great daypack in terms of functionality, comfort, and durability. The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is due to the fact that my bladder hose would not fit through the designated hole.

Super comfortable day pack

I've used it several times

I'm 5'4 with a short torso and scrawny shoulders, and finding packs that fit has been a pain. This one fits so well I can almost forget about it! The hip fins are secure and comfortable, with pockets big enough for my hand lens, chapstick, or pocket knife. Too small for a phone, but I'm OK with that because larger pockets would just get in the way of my arms. The hip straps do a good job of keeping the pack stable when I'm scrambling on rocky terrain, and support the pack's weight well. The shoulder straps don't dig into my neck. The hydration sleeve fits a 3L bladder comfortably, but it's a bit fiddly getting the tube through to the outside of the pack. There's plenty of space for lunch, essentials, binoculars, and a layer. The color is very nice (I got it in cardinal/maroon) but is more muted that the online photos appear - it's kind of a warm rosy pink. The pockets on the side of the pack might be awkward if you want to fit water bottles in them - the cinch strap is in the way. However I just use my camelback so I'm fine with that, and use the side pockets for snacks and a map.
