Streamlined alpine performance.
Venturing into the alpine requires a delicate balance of carrying all the necessary gear while staying as light and mobile as possible. With the Guide 45+ Backpack, Deuter has found the magical formula for streamlined performance during demanding alpine excursions. Now slimmer, lighter, and more well-equipped than before, this pack is ideal for technical alpine climbing, backcountry skiing, and ski mountaineering thanks to its robust construction and snug fit.
Its tall, and sleek design offers plenty of space for ropes, avy tools, extra layers, and other necessary gear without feeling bulky when you're crossing demanding terrain. Air channeled foam strips provide comfort and ventilation, while the innovative Vari Flex hip belt pivots with your body's movements, allowing you to maintain balance while climbing or ripping turns. functional and versatile
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my own personal opinion.
The Deuter Guide 45+ backpack is made of durable quality material with sturdy zippers. There are two zipped pockets (exterior and interior) in the top cover for smaller/quick access items. A convenient side zipper allows access to the main compartment without the hassle of unbuckling the top cover. The bottom section is also easily accessible with its own zipper. The bottom section can be its own compartment or unzipped to combine with the main compartment. There are no small front pockets on the straps or hip. The removable foam seat pad seems rather thin and stiff. It does not easily return to the inside pouch, especially with items in the pack. I probably would never ever use it for the effort required and amount of comfort provided. The pack is hydration compatible. The pack is very functional and versatile.
I am 5'9" tall with a slim build (140 pounds). I was worried the pack would fit big due to a "one size fits all". That was not the case. I tested the pack on two short hikes with camping gear inside. The pack sat well on the hips. The padding was surprisingly more comfortable than it appeared. There were no excess straps after tightening. The pack is slender keeping the gear close to the body and well balanced. The pack height is adjustable to be as tall or short as you need. I am very pleased with the fit.
Overall, the Deuter Guide 45+ backpack is good looking, well-constructed, and comfortable.

It doesn't seem to matter how much weight I shove into this pack, once it's on my back, it's like it's not even there. I don't know what they've done differently but this bag fits me like a glove. I love the bottom access and the side access as well!
