Looks can be deceiving.

It might look like your average day pack, but the Men's Deuter Futura 30L Backpack has a few tricks up its sleeve. The ergonomic and ventilated design of the padded shoulder straps and waist belt keep you comfortable on longer treks, and they're designed for minimal chafing—so if you're thinking of bagging a peak and doing an overnighter in one trip, you most certainly can. Slip a divider into the main compartment, creating a spot to store your sleeping bag, then stuff your extra layers above that, and your cooking and meal supplies into the top. Compression straps on the sides can be used to store your tent, but if you're the sleeping-under-the-sky sorta adventurer, you can travel even lighter. Plenty of exterior pockets are available for snacks, map, or phone, and the integrated rain cover protects your gear from unexpected showers.

Must have

Perfect day pack.... Deuter does an excellent job keeping the pack away from your back for great air flow. I’ve done 2 strenuous hikes ( Tripyramids in N.H.... Katahdin in Maine with this pack and my back was dry on both hikes. Also pack is super comfortable, forget you even have it on at times. I’ve tried osprey backpacks and when you tighten the loader straps it wedges into my shoulder blades making it very uncomfortable, not deuter... everything about their packs are super comfortable. This back has easier zip pockets on the waist and they made the chest strap easier to move up & down. Awesome stretch pocket on the outside and very roomy in the main compartment. This pack is worth every penny for the price.

Super Awesome Day Pack

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This pack is the first day pack that Ive gotten, and I am totally impressed. I took it on a 10 mile hike up to White Pine Lake just outside of Salt Lake City, and it was perfect. It held my fly rod, extra layers, hammock, my lunch, and all my water with room to spare. I highly recommend this pack for anyone looking for a lightweight, functional day pack.

Sorry if this sounds odd but in all my 70 years have never heard of a 78 L pack revered to as a day pack. Even more important two reviews with same wording great day pack. So what gives is the volume listed wrong or brown to be a total weakling and a 78 L pack is required now a days for a simple day pack. In my day a day pack was a pair of pants with cargo pockets and a thermos, no need for a 78 L pack that should handle the PCT !
