For all future adventures.
With a shorter torso, the Women's Deuter Futura 22L Backpack is designed for smaller frames, and for keeping them cool when warm days are in store. The Aircomfort Sensic Back System is designed for ventilated comfort on the trail, using ergonomic shoulder straps that provide natural adjustment to the width and angle of your shoulders; the hip fins blend seamlessly into the back panel, reducing pesky hot spots and leaving a breezeway between the pack and your back. Padded with breathable mesh and fully adjustable, getting a comfortable fit mid-hike is as easy as pulling on a strap or two.
The Futura 22L holds enough space for day hikes without getting excessive, and you can easily stuff in layers, lunch, and rain gear without batting an eye. Should you encounter stormy weather while you're out, the included rain
cover slips over the bag to keep your gear dry, and if you encounter
rocky terrain there's a spot for your trekking poles as well. Three stretch pockets on the outside let you add additional items you want to have close-at-hand, and a zippered organizational pocket comes in handy if you ever use the bag for going to class or commuting to work.

lots of pockets, also a large main inner section
here's a side view showing the mesh hammock feature, that really makes the pack feel well-ventilated while it's on.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review Is my personal opinion. The Deuter Futura 22L SL backpack is the perfect size for an overnight campout (if you're a light packer), or a larger daypack for day trips or when you need to carry extra/bulky gear. It doesn't feel bulky at ALL, and you can carry whatever you need without feeling like you're absolutely stuffing your pack. I also use it as my gear pack when riding my motorcycle to work on my daily commute, and the waist and chest straps keep it in place. The light frame really helps keep the weight balanced! I live in the desert, so I haven't needed to test the rain cover yet.
It is cut very well for women's shoulders and hips, where you don't notice the shoulder straps whatsoever. I'm short (5'3" longer torso) and it's the first pack I've put on that wasn't too big. That being said, if you're especially TALL, this pack might feel too short for you! The waist belt sits just above my hips in the right place, and there is some leeway in height combined with the shoulder strap adjustment.
Sizing and color (I have the black version) are just as described. The material is abrasion resistant and the pack seems like it is worthy of its lifetime warranty.
An added detail- inside of the pack, there is an instructive illustration on how to request aid (SOS) from an aircraft flying over you. There are plenty of pockets and places to keep everything in place, and the backpack doesn't "spill open" when you open the front half. It does rest "forward" like a larger hiking pack. My 3L bladder (from an older mtb pack I own) fits in the hydration sleeve of the Deuter Futura pack- which is a great bonus. Liter Nalgenes DO fit in the side pockets, and I love the outer front pocket for stuffing a light jacket or sweater in.
I think this Deuter Futura 22L SL Backpack is thoughtfully made and will get tons of multifunctional use.
