Shield Short Hardtail V2

Safeguard your sit-bones against rocks, stumps, or heartless steel handrails with the Demon Snow Men's Shield Short Hardtail V2. A fractured sacrum, aka your "tailbone," is even less fun than it sounds, the Shield Short's combination of soft foam and hard-shell panels mitigate against it. The soft padding on the hips, thighs, glutes, and tailbone is supplemented by removable rigid plastic panels on the thighs and sacrum, allowing you to be bold and take big hits without worry. And the reinforced seams and face fabric will hold up against heavy hammering, the integrated belt will keep them securely fastened, and the perforated Lycra base fabric will vent moisture to keep you from steaming away under it all.

I've used it several times

Agree with Kevin Z. I put some 3M extreme double sided tape on the Velcro and then stuck it back onto the hard plastic tailbone guard. It's staying now and shorts work well, I mainly wanted tailbone protection so I took the leg plastic off and haven't really worried about the hip foam placement. Definitely saved my t-bone several times so far snowboarding! The motorcycle helmet d-ring waistband adjustment is akward, but works pretty good once I figured out not to undo it all the way each time.

not for me.

Sounded good on paper, but not so good in person. I primarily wanted something with good tailbone protection, and this short had a nice piece of armor with good coverage. However, that piece was attached to the short with velcro tape - very cheap and not durable for an $80 short. It is already peeling off the hard plastic, and every time you bend you can hear the velcro tearing up at the edges. It won't last. Hard plastic over the thighs doesn't seem necessary to me, and was also attached with cheap tape. Could have used such armor over the hips, but that was soft padding there, and moreover, sits a good 2" below my actual hip bones. Too many flaws for $80.

I just use my padded mountain ( crotch, thighs) biking shorts and ski with a piece of 3/4 inch hard foam stuck down the back to protect my tailbone . . . saved me a few times, on both the bike and the slopes.
