Why We Like The Low Roller Snowboard Hardside Bag

When we are hopping on a train or an airplane we make sure to stuff our gear in the Dakine Low Roller Snowboard Hardside Bag. This fully padded bag can hold 2 snowboards with the bindings removed, but we prefer to bring our quiver killer deck with the bindings on, multiple outerwear combos, our boots, and a sneaky wax kit in case things get slow.

Complete garbage

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought the exact same hardside ski roller version (pics attached) less than a year ago and took it on two car trips…ie it was never touched by airport luggage handlers. During the second trip while rolling it down the sidewalk, the top handle snapped off and splintered the plastic. This occurred when packed with a single pair of skis and lightweight ski clothes (was advertised to hold multiple pairs of skis). No way would something like this hold up to air travel or heavy packing. Didn’t even get a response from backcountry so back to Evo/REI for me.

Great all the way up until it isn't...

Familiarity:

Fits boots and board with bindings, or two boards with bindings with a small amount of space in between. The case rolls well, looks well, and the material of the case makes me doubt it'd be able to be smashed in. I also really like the built in TSA combo lock on the case, solid choice! There are handles on all sides of the case so you can maneuver it any which way you need/want to. What wasn't a solid choice though... plastic zipper. It's the Achiles heel of the product. Used the case on one trip, got it back with the zipper busted. As the zipper is made entirely of plastic, the teeth can (and did) snap easily if the case is roughly handled at the airport. With a busted zipper, the case doesn't stay shut, and can't align properly to even unzip/zip it all the way in either direction making the whole thing a hazard. If you're not traveling via airplane, I would overwhelmingly recommend it, if you are though, this might not be the case for you. Currently awaiting a claim with the airline to get reimbursed for the case and I'm looking for something else in the meantime
