    Keep 'em coming!

Ditch the backpack and join the lumbar pack movement with the burly, comfortable Dakine Hot Laps 5L Lumbar Pack. Crafted from tough-as-nails materials, this pack securely conforms to your waist with an adjustable buckle and breathable, AirFlow backpanel to provide a fit that you won't even notice as you rally berms and pump rollers. It comes equipped with a squat, lumbar-shaped, two-liter hydration reservoir, and still has plenty of space to stow all the gear you're used to having on hand for your rides. The magnetic buckle auto-locates your hydration hose for fumble-free access, and a Phaser bite valve at the end of that hose provides squishy, easy sipping that won't hurt your teeth. Internal organizer pockets carry along tubes, tools, snacks, maps, and your phone, while external attachment points securely clip your safety lights and folding knife to help get you out of tough situations.
    • Get out there with just your trail essentials in this lumbar pack
    • Durable construction holds up through rougher rides
    • AirFlow backpanel promotes cool breathability
    • Hydrapak two-liter reservoir keeps hydration close at hand

    Perfect hydration pack for biking!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was nervous to switch to a fanny from a back pack for biking because I like to have a lot of water when I bike. Since I have had the Hot Laps I haven't ran out of water once! It holds the perfect amount of water(not too much and not too little) and it surprisingly holds a fair amount of gear. The only downfall is it tends to bounce around when riding, but when wearing a fanny that is hard to avoid. I wear mine on every ride I go on now, long or short

    Better than Your Pack

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Being able to carry water/snacks/tools on my hips and not on my back has been a huge game changer in my cycling setup. It's changed the way I ride for the better, and I'm not sure if I'd be able to return to a backpack after all the rides with this guy. One downside to the pack is that the one-size-fits-all doesn't actually fit everyone great, and when the hydration sleeve is full, there's not a ton of room for other items in the pack. This is alright by me since my dakine backpack had the exact same issue, but if you are one to carry many items on long rides, it may be worth checking out in person.

Great for taking the weight off my back!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Not one for falling into trends. But these things are sweet for warm to hot weather riding! Takes the pack off your back so you're not soaking through the back of your jersey!

    Big Fanny

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Decent size to carry everything you need for a quick trail ride. Wish the reservoir was a little bigger but then again you might as well buy a backpack instead. No more sweaty back with this.

    Fanny packs are back

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great substitute for the backpack. Gone are the days when you have a sweat back because you need to carry your gear with you. This hip bag has enough room for keys, cell phone, your park tool as well as a extra tube. Free your back and get more laps in!

    Great for Mountain Biking

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This pack definitely changed the way I ride my mountain bike. I sit up straighter because I don't have straps over my shoulders. They hydro pack is easy to use while riding and there is plenty of space for snacks and tools in the pockets. You can easily adjust how tight it is around your waist which is great when switching from climbing to downhill. I would also recommend this pack for hiking and other adventures!

    Disappointment City

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Meh, I bought this to either replace or adjunct my Camelbak.

If you fill the bladder full you have a very limited amount of space in the cargo area to put your stuff...very limited...

Riding on any technical trail leads to what feels like a bouncy lower back/tush area and tightening it doesn't feel awesome on the hips.

Wouldn't recommend it for anything but *maybe a shorter hike, or something not requiring any substantial carrying capability.

Going back to my Camelbak immediately.

    Made for Trail

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this to replace a day pack I was previously using when riding my mountain bike. So far I am psyched on this pack. It has the perfect amount of room for all the tools you need to carry and a few snacks. The exterior lashing on the bottom works great for being able to strap an extra layer on in case you get hit with some inclement weather. The bladder is the perfect size for short or long rides. This pack is also low profile enough that i usually forget I'm wearing it. The only improvement I see down the line would be better strapping to orient the pack a little better on your lower back and some smaller stache pockets like the EVOC comparable packs. That being said I love this pack and if you are debating making the move over to a hip pack over a backpack I would highly recommend it.

    Great Lumbar Pack

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Starting to see these everywhere, and I can understand why. Super comfortable, durable, and useful. We were worried that this would cause an issue with sweat or temperature but the AirFlow panel really does help with the breathability in the heat. Best pack so far!

    I wanted to love this!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this for my girlfriend and here is her review:

I really wanted to love this waist pack. I got it because of all the great reviews on this site and from friends. I think the bag was made very well, it is very functional and stylish. However, it has been VERY uncomfortable for me. I tried it on 2 rides and 1 hike. I'm on the bigger side for a female cyclist, size L-XL, and this pack cuts into me in a painful way. I cannot find a comfortable spot on my waist/hips for it to rest. Like I said, I know people who love these and I'm guessing it has to do with their size.

    Wayyy better then a backpack.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Fit is simple, effective and roomy when needed (5L option)
Plenty of space for a tube, tools, nutrition and a fairly full bladder
Small outside easy access pockets for a tiny tool or chapstick.
Magnet bladder hose holder holds great even on the wild decents
Overall adjustable with a good amount of straps.

When full the bladder is pretty bouncy, I have to fill half and bring a water bottle.. which is no big deal really.

Straps to compress work, but if you are running really light they dont compress the bag enough for me.

No closure option on the hose so sitting in the back of my car it sometimes leaks a little

All in all I am very happy with this and would take this any day over a backpack for the coolness (both temperature and style points) factor.

    No More Sweaty Back!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This hip pack is awesome and keeps the back sweat free from backpack sweat marks. I have found that loading the pack with 1/2 to 1 L makes it the most comfortable to ride with especially if you are carying a tool and repair kit. Love the magnetic hydration tube which is easy to snap back into place while riding. Also has good compartments for storing tools/extra tubes or plugs.

So Much Cooler than a Backpack

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

For exceptionally long rides where more than 2 liters of water, layers, snacks, and more are needed, a traditional pack would make sense. For rides under a few hours, this is the perfect go to. As the reservoir becomes less full, you can cinch down the straps on the side, allowing for a tighter fit, reducing the chance of the pack bouncing up and down. The straps on the bottom are perfect for holding pads or a jacket. The interior of the pack has compartments and elastic straps perfect for organization. If all of that wasn't enough to sell you, then purchase this item knowing that you will look incredibly stylish and all of your riding buddies will be envious. Plus, your back has the freedom to breathe freely.

    Hopped on the fanny train

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Fanny's used to be whack but last year they came right back and I hopped on the train. This thing is truly awesome. It fits perfectly snug around the waste with easy access to the hydration hose. My favorite part is that it stays secure and doesn't bounce/move around when you opening it up on the descents or get some airtime. As a previous reviewer said, it's my go-to for everything except a big all day ride when a backpack would be required.

    Unanswered Question

Does It work for kids too im thinking about getting one of these for my 13 year old son about 92 pounds and 5 feet 3 inches tall and was wondering if it would fit around his waist.
