This pack is amazing!
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Recently got into riding and needed a good pack to accommodate my sweaty back, this one met all my needs! I am usually a bit skeptical of the Air Suspension panels on packs because the gap typically isn't that big, but this one is huge! At its widest, it is probably 3" which allows plenty of room for air to sneak in and cool keep you back cool. I love the top pocket, plenty of space for some snacks, extra shirt/layer and a Sony A6500. The outer pocket has plenty of smaller inner pockets to store tools, phones and other smaller items.

New fit and features
- I've put it through the wringer
My bike pack need upgrading and after seeing some of the features of the new Drafter series I gave this one a try, so glad I did!!! This one is amazing! I've had older versions of the Drafter, Nomad and Apex. The meshy back panel lets life saving air cross over your back and yet keeps the pack stable. Overall the shoulder straps are a huge impovement also in fit. They have some stretch giving some more comfort. The pack at 1st felt small due to the design but after a little getting used to its amazing how much gear can fit inside and is easy to gain access to. The side pocket can be reached without removing the pack just double check the zipper is pulled tight. Ample storage for all the usual tools and accessories. I was able to fit my DSLR, change of gloves, jersey and 2L of water with room to spare. Pros. Fit! its so comfortable and breathable. Side pockets are nice to access while wearing the pack. Cons. My large shock pump is hard to fit in the lower tool pocket. My XC helmet likes to jump out of the helmet carry so I have to run the straps through it. All in all I love the pack and it beats out the other packs I was looking at. Anyone looking for a big day bike pack or gear intensive rides, This one! I'm tempted to get the smallest size for quick rides.

Super stoked on this pack!
- I've put it through the wringer
I have been using a Dakine hot laps hydration fanny pack for the past year and was in serious need of more space and a larger reservoir for longer rides. I picked up the Drafter 18L for my husband, and liked it so much that I wanted to snag one for myself, but wanted something a touch smaller. The Dakine Drafter 14L is the perfect fit. It has a lumbar located reservoir accessible from a side zip, with a quick release so it's easy to fill. The outer pocket, which sits between the helmet pouch and reservoir, is really well designed with ample pockets for everything you need to carry, nutrition, co2, tubes, tire levers, spare gloves, pump, multi tool, etc. There is a nice fleece lined pocket for your shades or phone, and a larger pocket that sits above the hydration reservoir to hold a shell or even a sweatshirt. One super cool feature is that the larger pocket has a shelf that separates itself from the reservoir, but is capable of opening via a velcro strip if you want to add an extra water reservoir for longer rides. Last, but certainly not least, the way this pack sits on your back is super comfortable. It's a little more structured and sits with a gap between the mesh layer and the bag itself, with this increase of structure and gap there is huge breathability to keep you from overheating, and it's capable of running an additional back protection piece to keep your spine safe without extra layers. The spine protection comes with the larger pack, but doesn't come stock on the 14, you would need to snag it afterwards if it's what you'd like to run. Definitely a solid pack!

Does this updated version still have the deployable straps at the bottom for external pad storage?
